New cpu or ram, which will i get the most performance boost from upgrading

So im trying to squeeze another year out of my living room pc which i use for light gaming and heavy internet browsing. So eventually im going to upgrade the cpu and ram but I only have enough money for 1 or the other at the moment. My choices are

2 gb of ram to 4 gb of ram

or

amd athlon 64 x2 4000+ to amd athlon 64 x2 6000+

Now id be better off just building a brand new system but at the moment i just dont have the cash and im trying to get the most out of what i have :) So which one will i see the most performance gain in upgrading?

I would get more ram and you can get a phenom ll x4 for about 80 bucks.

Well im running an Am2 socket and theres no bios updates so......

Oh you can getĀ  am3+ mobo for pretty cheap some as low as 30 dollars

Ya but at that point im basicly building a brand new system so.... someday

That system is not worth upgrading in my opinion

I'd go for some RAM. then save up for a sweet rig

What mb do you have?

Just gonna get the ramĀ

Thanks

as stated before it wouldn't be worth it in the long run.

Will I see any real difference between 2gb and 4gb? because im running at about 1gb usage at idle in windows 7
