New computer, HELP!

So i just finished building my new computer. I ran into a couple of problems along the way and need some help.

Specs:

Asus M5a97 R2.0

AMD-FX 6300

Sapphire Radeon HD 7770

Corsair 600W PSU

Western Digitial Caviar Blue 1TB

Benq RL2455 (i think thats the model of the monitor)

First problems were that the monitor wasn't recognizing the HDMI cable, so i used a DVI one to get the display on and the computer working. After lot's of windows updates and installing ALL of the drivers for just about everything, the monitor recognized the HDMI cable, BUT, there is about an inch of black seperating the edge of the monitor and what is actually being displayed on screen. does anyone have a fix??? Also i downloaded windows on a disk that has been used before and will i run into any problems with activation? I'm really worried about this! Please help,

THANKS!

First Problem: Just use DVI. It's a faster and higher quality interface.

If you really must use HDMI, try setting your resolution in Windows to the native res on your display(1920x1080). If that does not work the problem should be somewhere in the monitor's settings. Bring up the menu on your display's controls and search for a "size and position" menu, which should allow you to adjust your image to the proper display size.

Second problem: If you are no longer using the previous install from that copy of Windows or you have more than one license for that code/disk, you should be fine. If after a few months windows notifies you that you are not using a validated copy of Windows, you should contact Microsoft customer support.

You can buy a new license and apply it from the Microsoft website if you need a license and cannot transfer an old one. There are other solutions but they would violate your EULA.

Either way, you should not need to re-install Windows.

Thanks a lot! I did not know that DVI was better so I am using that again now and it fits the screen properly!

There is nothing wrong with the HDMI. Its the AMD CCC that makes it unscan to 5% of the resolution by default.

To fix that open AMD CCC, go to the tab "My Digital-Flat Panels" and then "Scaling options". Then drag the slider to 0%.
