New build won't post

Hi, my friend just built his first computer and we cannot get it to post.  When we turn the computer on, the fans turn on, and the led on the keyboard lights up, but there is no display out put.  We are using the vga out put because we do not have an adapter, or a monitor that supports dvi. I think that might be the issue, because when it turns on, it may only use the dvi.  We ended up pulling one of the ram sticks; before, when it had two, it would not even turn on.  An issue i had with the first gen apu from amd with a gigabyte board, was that the default bios settings were to use a graphics card, and not use the on-boards graphics.  I am a few hours away from my friend, so he is using and old 720p tv from 2006, and has no way to get a gpu.

I anyone has any idea or feedback, please please help.

If the led on the keybord lights up, then it is passing post. Most likely a GPU issue. The Video would go to whichever display was detected, VGA or DVI doesnt matter. Could be a problem with the board.

Do you think we should do an RMA

Try using a monitor that supports HDMI or DVI, if that doesn't work then RMA the Motherboard.

If THAT doesn't work, then the CPU. Which is also the GPU. But a bad CPU rarely ever comes straight from amd. Like ever.

I know when I put together an apu build on the fm1 platform, the default bios setting looked for a graphics card, and not the on board gpu.  He will get a graphics card at some point, but wants to get windows, and a monitor first.  Do you think it makes sense to try a gpu in the system now.

It should auto detect, really. If not, It would still detect that there was no PCIe GPU, and use internal.

It would also at least show the bios screen, as your first build did, to change it.

Can try removing the cmos battery for a minute then plugging it back in to clear whatever could be in the settings.

He tried that

I would RMA.

Thank you all for helping me, we will likely be doing an rma soon, if we cannot get it running

We tried a dvi monitor and it didn't work, so we are doing an rma and getting this
