New build that's way overdue. (x99)

Iv been on a Asus g60jx laptop for 4 or so years now as my primary computer and its time to get a real desktop again. The primary use will be for CAD, 3D Modeling, and Computer graphics, then there's gaming too on the side. It has been a long while since i built a computer so I guess I'm looking for any input or advice if there is any. budget is < $1500 usd

I have an SSD and 2 monitors already which I grabbed on a sale, this weekend Ill be taking a trip up to micro-center to see if they have deals on anything too.

Different MOBO.. I would not go MSI.. simply for VRM and a tendency to spontaneously combust.. ;) I would suggest looking at ASrocks line.. Fatalyty are great boards... so are the OC formulas.. in fact im getting one so id suggest that board... ASUS is viable.. in fact gigabytes fairly good on the Intel side.. EFI got better... Though seriously.. dont go msi ... I could go on about reasons but Ill just leave it at that..

In fact if you want a blue board look at the X99 Extreme boards from ASROCK.. Very feature packed.. very nice boards.. and still decent overclockers... realistically your looking at 4.4 ghz max

I would suggest to check if your wifi adapter has drivers that are compatible with your operating system/s. I bought a tp-link adapter without taking this into account and I'm have trouble getting the drivers to work with Linux Ubuntu.

Every board manufacture has had at least one of their products catch fire, in MSI's case that was mainly the AMD 800 series chipset boards.

I have a z77a-gd65 and that didn't spontaneously combust, my only complaints are to do with bios issues.

I recommend going with an ASUS they have a very good bios and feature set, but the MSI board should be fine.

D: pulled the trigger right before people started posting in here

couple things changed the RAM, GPU and PSU. Guess ill see how it goes.

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2400
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750W 80+ Gold Full-Modular

Just looked up the wifi card and it does seem to be well supported under Linux.

I noticed that after buying some of the components on amazon, the case had a 2-4 week lead time (but its in stock???), will they hold up the rest of the parts or will they ship seperatly. from what i see it looks like it'll hold it all up. UPDATE: just contacted amazon support though their live chat, they canceled the case so i can reorder it to separate it so it ships seperatly. everything but the case should be in by Wednesday, will see how things test out then.
