I have a new build windows 8, 3770k, and 7970ghz and want to start mining. I've joined a pool, downloaded the wallet, but I'm having problems with the mining application. Ive tried reaper (it stops working while compiling), guiminer never connects.
any suggestions?
Have you created the .bat file you need to connect to the server pool? If so, please copy your .bat file here
I haven't. I've been trying to connect to give me ltc pool and the burnside one, by changing the config files for reaper and the configurator for guiminer
On Guiminer, make sure the server is mint.bitminter.com and the port is 8332. Here is a screenshot for reference:
I'm pretty sure he is solo mining with a different pool. So he'll have the info of whatever pool he's using.

You're going to have to provide more information for people to troubleshoot, for example what pool you are using, what version of AMD drivers etc so we can try to solve your issue :) Also you didn't make it very clear what coin you are trying to mine

I trying to mine lite coins, but Ive also tried to join the Tek pool for bit coins too.. but i can never get my miner to start showing hashes

I used this configuration last night and let it sit like this all night and no change.
Im using AMD catalist version 13.4
Driver Packaging Version 12.104-130328a-155980C-ATI
..the pools ive been trying to join are;
give-me-ltc.com and http://ltc.kattare.com/
I have some extra flags, not sure if they are necessary though. Mine are '-v' and '-W 128' for a HD7850. The '-v' is for the AMD card I believe.
EDIT: I turned mine flags off and I was fine, can't help further, sorry :(
Are you trying to mine litecoins with GUIMiner? Because that won't work :)

I've also tried using reaper
Go into your appdata than your roaming folder, then search for a folder that is like pbcm or something like that(I'm on my linux laptop because computer's motherboard is being worked on so I do not remember the exact file name, but it does start with p and has random letters after it, if you give me a screen shot of your app data->roaming file in the p section I could point it out if you can't find it). Delete the contents of this folder and when you start up GUIminer again enter all the info again and try to see if that works. Also try syncing your wallet and make sure you have a worker with teksyndicate at www.teksyndicate.com/bitcoin . Good luck.
Okay I am having this same problem I thought it was just me so I basically gave up on mining LTC. However, I have a Intel 3570k with a 7850 and I get this problem:
When I use cg miner it starts the long polling then it says cgminer.exe has stopped working and closes.
When I use reaper it says compiling kernel this could take up to 2 minutes.. then right after it says reaper.exe has stopped working and closes.
When I use gui miner scrypt it just never connects. Because its either using cgminer or reaper and they both crash.
Keep in mind this is after I'v edited the configs, after I'v tried many different pools, and after I entered all the right settings. Iv changed drivers, sdks, and even hard drives. Is this a much more serious problem or am I doing something wrong?
One bonus peice of info: I can mine BTC with both cgminer and guiminer and I can mine LTC with only my cpu using scrypt miner. However anytime I try to mine LTC with my GPU and any of these miners Im getting these errors.

I cant tell you about LTC mining, but if you are having the same results with BTC mining try what I said above. Or you can hop on our mumble server were we have many people who are qualified for helping with bitcoin and litcoin.
I can mine Bitcoin fine it's just Litecoin
I get this too and just after I installed a new GPU.
Are you on windows 8? I think it might be some bug or something so I am going to downgrade today.
Oh and for anyone who is trying to mine litecoin on GUI miner -scrypt alpha you are going to have to dissable stratum.
After you do that it should be able to connect.

I was able to get scryptMiner working, now i just need to get the gpu one to work
Scrypt Miner works fine for me also but once I try to mine with my GPU... forget about it
