New Budget build, no boot, wat do

Alright, used all of my $450 bucks in Fry's giftcard and some extra cash to get my budget gaming PC going.

Got an I3 3220, Radeon 7850, Asus P8H 61-M LX3 R2.0 mobo, 2x8Gb Patriot "Viper" 1600Mhz Ram.... and It won't boot. It was sorta just restarting constantly. I tried other ram, no use. Then I got a different mobo (I used to have a larger one, but I traded it in). Now I've traded in the CPU for another one, just incase mine was DOA. Tried it with and with out the GPU, and tried a different PSU. Any ideas?

What exactly do you meen by wont boot? Are you:

1. Not posting (not getting into and beyond BIOS)

2. Posting, but not booting (You can get to BIOS, but not windows (or linux))

3. No on-screen signs of power, but lights up on the motherboard, and/or other components.

4. Computer shows no signs of power at all

5. Other (please explain)

Sorry, I totally glossed over that.
It has been doing a few different things, which led me to beleive it was a bad CPU.

Normally, the fan would power up and then down, as if it was trying to start and then restarting. Every so often I'd see "Asus" flash on the screen. Pretty much variations of that have been happening. Until very recently that is. Now the fan has started spinning up and continuing to spin, as if the computer was booting

Also, there is no HDD or disc drive installed ATM, but that shouldn't stop it from posting, right?

Which of the following have you tried with different components?

RAM

MOBO

CPU

GPU

HDD

PSU

Monitor

Shouldnt

I've tried different RAM, my one worry is that neither of the RAM is on the supported RAM list for the mobo, but I kinda doubt that's the issue. I've also tried different variations of RAM sticks and slots

I've already replaced the mobo with a different model.

I've only got a replacement CPU of the same model

I've tried with and without the GPU, onboard video vs GPU video

No hdd's installed, I just want this damn thing to post

I've tried a second PSU without the GPU installed as the other PSU did not have 6 pin power, but I had the same issues as before it seems

I've definitely tried all sorts of monitors

Somebody suggested I flash my BIOS based off of this:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8H61M_LX_PLUS_R20/#CPUS

Selecting my CPU then flashing the BIOS based off the given update

Hmm... That happened to me when I built mine 4 days ago. For me, it was a DIMM slot on my motherboard. Try a different combination for your RAM sticks again, but if it continues to be a problem then some part is definitely broken.

Ok, I think it might be the RAM. EIther that or something is pluged in and screwing with it (you never know).

So, I would first, unplug everything that isnt necessary, and try to boot. That meens unpluging, and removing, the GPU, and drives, of any sort, and any ports being used, except the video you are using to connect to your monitor.

As for testing the RAM, pull it out, then try to boot and see what happens. And of coarse, try both together.

I've already tried different RAM and different RAM combos, as well as gotten a completely new motherboard with extremely similar issues.

It might be RAM, but I've already tried other RAM and all possible RAM configurations with two different Motherboards. I also have been only trying to boot with minimum possible connections to narrow down the issue. Not GPU, not mobo, and probably not PSU (unless it's fried everything I plug into it)

I would say thats the last thing you want to do. BIOS flashing can cause issues, so if you can't come up with anything else, then resort to that.

did you try booting without RAM?

Will a computer POST without RAM? If so, i'll try it

It might. I know it will on some motherboards, and I suspect it will on yours, but it might not.

I tried, it did nothing different

hmm... Sorry dude, thats too wierd, you've replaced (or temporarily removed) all of your parts and still got this. The only thing left is the case, and that doen't make much sence.

I think you should contact some profesional support. I would email ASUS, maybe Intel, and if possible, Fry's. Failing that (and it will probably take a few days), you might have to take it in. :(

I don't think we've eliminated everything yet. It still might be the wrong RAM, or perhaps a failing PSU that's zapping my parts (doubtful) or, more likely, I have to update the BIOS to work with this CPU. That, however, is tricky, as it requires a CPU that is functional with the Mobo

Isnt a Radeon 7850 AMD and your i3 Intel?
