I was just wondering what you guys think about the new AMD gpu's. Do you think they're coming soon? Im buying a 4670k and and MSI-G45 this week and prob gonna hold out for a couple weeks hoping for a new gpu to be announced.
would a single 7970 do me well for a 2560x1440p monitor?
Don't think they will be announced in the next couple of weeks. There are plenty of good GPUs on the market that you can choose from, currently.
However, I waited months for the 700 series to emerge, and found that to be worthwhile. It's up to you if you want to wait.

Even a single 7950 does pretty well at 1440p. I'd grab a 7950 and crossfire it at a later time. Would give more performance than my GTX 780, and at a lower price.
I am waiting for 9970 CF for my new dedicated Folder, of which I will do a build log for. Looking into custom TEC cooling ;)
I think they will be worth it; Nvidia really isn't worth it in the modern age, in terms of anything other than their high-end cards (for Folding) and raw gaming performance. AMD kicks their ass in everything else. Every. Other. May.
The 7970 is getting up to 120k PPD with Core 17 WUs, while the 780 gets about 150k and the Titan about 180k. With the price difference, there is no reason to get Nvidia. 9xxx looks to be 7xx killers, too!
I find the real fun in the fact that the 9970 will probably beat the titan.
And as I do hope it will be much more sanely priced, I don't think that will prove a real challenge :)
i too really want to upgrade from my EAH5850 DirectCU TOP/2DIS/1GD5 but i will wait for the next gen of AMD graphic chip-set... with the launch of the new console generation new hardware for PC will get out too and i suspect the 7xxx series will get a reasonable drop in price
I wanna know what will come after the 9990... The four number scheme will be ruined.
I was wondering the same thing. Maybe they will adopt a completely new naming scheme and architecture.
