New $1400 Build-Need help with Case/Motherboard

Build a PC Forum I need your help, so I am planning on building a small form factor gaming pc.  I am partial to the gtx 770 but am open to suggestions.  I do not play MMO's and would like to run almost any other popular game on a 1920x1080 Monitor on ultra at 40+ fps.  My absolute max for this pc is $1500, but I would prefer to keep it around 1400 USD (not including peripherals).  I am planning to over clock a little bit, not too heavy though.  I am also planning on sticking with air cooling.

Here is my parts list (There is link at the bottom to PC Part Picker):

CPU:  Intel i5-4670k

-- I think this is pretty much set in stone.  I am open to suggestions, but I like this CPU.

GPU:  Galaxy GeForce GTX 770 2GB

-- I like the GTX 770 and I picked this aftermarket card because it looks sexy in white (Yes I realize you can get other cards like the Asus gtx 770 for cheaper)  Again I am open to suggestions, but I think this card will suit my needs well.

PSU:  Corsair Gaming Series 700 Watt

-- I think this will suit my needs just fine

RAM:  Corsair Vengeance 16 GB

-- I want 16gb 1600mhz ram and I you suggest other ram like crucial ballistix, please explain why you chose it over the vengeance.

CPU Cooler:  Phanteks U-Type Dual Tower Heat-Sink PH-TC12DX Black

-- I love the look and performance of this CPU cooler, but if there is a thinner, high quality case available I will change it to fit the case.

Motherboard:   Z87 LGA 1150 mATX motherboard

-- I am not sure about this choice, if you have a better option please suggest it.

Case: Fractal Design Arc Mini

-- I am currently using this case because it looks sexy.  I would like a smaller case for easier travel though, and would like recommendations as to high quality small and portable cases. I am willing to spend more money on the case if it means better portability and quality.  I also want my case to have a window so I can admire my work :)

HDD:   WD Blue 1 TB 7200 RPM

SSD:  Samsung 840 Pro Series 128GB

Case Fans: Fractal Design Silent Series R2 Fans to match the case -- if I change cases i will likely change fans

As I said I am looking for a case smaller than the arc mini, but still high quality case (hopefully just as sexy as the Fractal Design Cases).  I am change CPU cooler and gnu if it will mean a smaller case for better portability.  I also don't know about the motherboard so some advice on that would be great.  Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance for your help!

I do believe the FD Arc Mini R2 is out/coming out.  I've seen a couple reviews and it's a lot better than the original Arc Mini.

If you want cheaper RAM, this should do just fine: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/crucial-memory-bls2kit8g3d1609ds1s00.  It also has lower CAS latency(9 vs 10), and should have better overall performance.

A good 550W PSU will do just fine for one GPU.  I would go for 750W if you want to SLI some 770s.

The white Galaxy GTX 770 is a beauty, but is it worth the higher price?  Up to you.

I would help you more, but I gotta get me some food.  Hope this was helpful.

With a $1400-1500 budget, it all really comes down to what you're looking for and what you like. For a portable case, the Cooler Master HAF XB EVO is exceptional. It's puny, and has USB 3.0.

As for the motherboard, and for the budget, make sure you get USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s. No real suggestions, as there are many LGA 1150 motherboards that fit this criteria. Just stay away from MSI. Always stay away from MSI.

Thanks! I appreciate the help.  I don't think I will be runnig SLI so i might go with the 600w power supply.  And if I stick with this case I will keep the white GPU, it is just so sexy.  Thanks for mentioning the FD Arc Mini R2, I'll have to check it out!

I am really looking for a portable case with a window.  I'll have to look at the case you mentioned.  Why do you say stay away from MSI, I have heard some decent things about their motherboards.  I appreciate the help!

if your looking for 40+ in games on ultra take a look at the 760 for at around 250 it plays games at 40+ fps i run battle field 3 everything maxed out between 50-90fps on a refrence evga 760 its a really good card for how cheap it is worth taking a look at and would save you 70bucks to put towards an SSD possibly

At least to my knowledge of looking at many reviews of a lot of MSI's available motherboards online, most of their boards [at least lower-end ones] have been known to fail. Some people even have some of their higher-end boards fail or have something that doesn't work.

But I guess that's really based upon some of the many people who actually took time to write a review. :/

All in all, check out some of the reviews on the motherboard, just to make sure that what you're getting isn't going to last a year then suddenly die.

Oh, and on small cases: A lot of small form factor computer cases won't have side windows, but you might find a few. Nonetheless, good luck on your build!

While the faster bootups\load times ect from an SSD is good, in game a GTX770 is going to work far better than a SSD & GTX760... so if your mainly gaming I'd go the 770 any day. Having said that for the same(ish) money you can get a r9 290 and if you don't mind the noise it will provide better performance.

However the gtx760 is still defiantly fine for most modern games at 1080p and will be cheaper... especally if you go for a cheaper brand reference design card, and they do exhaust heat outside your case... it just won't overclock as well as a aftermarket cooler would. Galaxy has a very cheap 760 that reviews ok, but get whatever on special in your area.

The Phanteks PH-TC14PE is a dual tower, but the PH-TC12DX is a single tower. Which one are you looking into?

Regarding portable Matx cases I'd go the Xigmatek Aquila, it has a window (you said you'd rather have one), handles, cools well, fits full sized graphics and coolers, is quiet enough and most of all is solid. They also don't cost too much, they can however be a bit of a pain to find... so take that into account.

I'd also recommend the 2tb WD blue or Seagate barracuda, its twice the space and far less than twice the money... besides you will fill it eventually so more is useful. The 840 evo 128gb is also good.

Anyway good luck with the system!

Sorry I copied that from Amazon, it is the PH-TC12DX that I am looking at

Right now I am leaning towards having both the Samsung SSD and a WD Blue in my system, I might go with a 2TB blue, ill just have to see.  I am likely going to use the Phanteks TH-PC12DX CPU cooler, it has pretty good review and I think it will allow me to over clock more than I want to.  I am 95% sure I am getting the 770.  Thanks for the feedback!

my reference evga overclocked higher then my buddies 4gb acx cooler evga so i would say is a toss up on which card you get i like my 760 for the 250 i paid even if you dont spend the extra money its money saved

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McMuS67wNwk  here is the video that changed my mind also see this is 1440 so at 1080 the numbers will be higher the 760 is close to the 770 and for the money saved id go for the 760 and then in a year when the card is slacking get another 760 and have more power then the titan for under 500 bucks just my two pennies

It is a good thought, I will definitely look into it.  I do like the the single GPU power of the 770, and if I decide on a case and motherboard that will only support one graphics card I will definitely do the 770.  If I decide on a case and motherboard that are able to support two graphics cards in SLI I will probably do the 760 and add another one down the road like you said.  Thanks for pointing out that the difference isn't between the two isn't that big, and it would save about $100

yea when they first came out it was a price dif of like 100-150 so it was an easy choice then but when i seen the 770 had dropped in price i can see why you would go for it if the money is there for one
