Never Again

I just want to give everyone my thoughts and experiences on (nearly) completing my first gaming PC. First of i want to say thanks to all the forum members who helped me and to the the Tek Syndicate crew for the awesome tutorial on building the PC. The thing is though, when i was about to build my computer I thought once I built computer it would be plain sailing because all i would have to do is put win 7 on a pen drive and download the games I bought in the Steam summer sale. I couldnt have been anymore wrong. When I built my computer I had a few issues.

1. One of the expansion slots is stuck in because the screw wouldnt come out so my GPU is only held up by one screw

2. (this one is really stupid) I didnt know which of the screws were motherboard screws so i screwed on into a standoff outside the case and iI couldnt get it out so im minnging a motherboard standoff

3. The latches for my AMD heatsink were slightly too short so to get them onto the nub i had to bend the motherboard which caused a lot of stress for me (and probably my motherboard) but my motherboard works fine (i think) so its all good.

It took me about two and a half hours to build and it was to be truthful not an enjoyable experience. But it was all done, now its just a few more easy steps and i will be gaming in no time. It took me atleast 5 attempts to download and install a win 7 that worked which with an internet speed like mine and including going to my dads, took over two weeks to do. But now that thats out of the way I can just sitdown and game. Yeaaaaaahhh... NOPE I had to install them fucking Internet drivers and with no disk drive (because you dontn need one) it took me about an hour to get the driver disk you get with your motherboard onto my PC through my laptop which is slower than a snail through peanut butter, then onto usb and then finally into my computer. Did that fix the problem no. I had to do the same process without the CD bit three times till I could connect to the internet. Then i just downloaded the drivers for the rest of my hardware (easy peasy) and other programs like firefox, chrome, winrar, skype ect. However i stall have issues with my computer. The first being that i cant get sound out off my computer. It just says no headphones or speakers ar plugged in but my headphones are plugged into the appropriate spot. I have downloaded the latest drivers but still no luck ( but i think i am going to buy an external sound card anyway ) and when i turn on my computer i have to go throught the boot menu to load up windows.

I have enjoyed the time i have had playing civ 5 with my friend (all the other games i have bougth require sound as a main part of the experience) but i dont know how much i would have enjoyed it without him. Having 60 fps on a near maxed out game is awesome aswell but i think if the Tek Syndicate crew make another tutorial on building a PC thay should include a software part aswell (i know that not everyone is going to use win 7 but i think that the majority off people will, as most of them will be gaming and linux doesnt suppourt that many games) or maybe im just a n00b.

Just remember you have to start somewhere. It gets easier with time and xp . Its impossible to learn the basics in a few short vids.

I would say allways take you time wenn you build a computer, never rush. Double check things, before you go to the next step. and never get nervous.

Most times wenn a build doesnt work the first time, or things go completely wrong, is because people are in a rush. and dont take theire time for it. I allways take my time to build something, my last build took me also more then 2 hours, but at the end, it was running  at the first button hit. and that makes me happy. ☺

Well everyone has there troubles when building.

I've had hardware problems for the last couple of months and when i built my brothers pc he had software problems.

Though you do learn and you will not make the same mistakes again in future build.

I was nervous as hell trying to get my heatsink on

I spent upwards of 5 hours and $900 on my first build. and then i thought i had a PSU problem so I returned it. then I had what i thought was a mobo problem so i returned that as well. after nearly a moth of waiting i noticed that in myusers guide for my Mobo it said somthing about pressing a certain button when turing the PC on for the first time to get it to recognize the RAM. BOOM instantly fixed. cept my new problem was the tangle of wires would not fit behind the mobo to close the backpanel. 3 hours later i finally got it up and running.

my second build took me about 3 hours. I had a lot better luck and a lot more fun with that. my 3 only took about 1.5 hours.

the trick is to relax. I know its unnerving to be messing about with bare electronics that cost Over $300 but once you have the hang of it and know what your doing it gets addictive. I will agree the software part is a B!&#$ and i do wish there was a tek syndicate video for it (especially setting up and SSD as a boot drive and HDD as a data drive) but its nothing a quick internet search cant fix i guess.

Don't worry; you will make mistakes, so just accept that and have some fun. Issues will come in your path, and you will deal with them. Do it, move on, and live your life. Don't think badly of PC building because of one bad experience. This is a journey, enjoy it.
