So I want to learn a little bit more on networking. My goal is not to become an networking guru, I'm just curious and want to learn networking basics so I can understand how my network works and how can I configured it within Windows and Linux environment.
Do you guys know any any good (and free) ressources that I could consult?
It has all the basics covering network types, Protocols, Topology. Its not super in-depth but it will give you what you need to know.
As for configuring a network, the only things that are changed within Windows or Linux clients is assigning the IPs via DHCP or setting them statically. Most configuration occurs on the routers and switches themselves. Network Services, such as DHCP, DNS etc are server side.
Most anything you can look up on Google related to CCNA would be helpful, even though CCNA is more aimed toward Cisco hardware there isn't many significant changes between the rest of the hardware, commands are all generally the same on routers and GUI's vary from manufacture to manufacture assuming you are not configuring through a console in the first place.
