My friend has a macbook pro and a netgear n150 with a motorola cable modem with time warner internet...last night all of a sudden the wireless connection dropped, the internet light turned orange and he cant connect wirelessly. He can however connect through wired internet though. Weve narrowed the problem down to that it cant obtain an IP address. Specifically it needs to be changed to dynamic IP instead of static. I for the life of me cant figure out how to get the router to change from obatainging a static ip address to a dynamic ip address...any thought?
Did you try to restart the router?
yes, he even went out and bought another netgear router before he called me. Both were restarted. It still wont connect through wireless. The internet light on the router is still orange.
Plug the modem in, make sure it has a connection. Unplug both, and wait a bit. The reset and see what happens.
Sounds like it might be from his wireless device. You might want to check to see if the wireless device is set in either statis or DHCP, you also might want to try to go into the router configureation to further diagnose the problem. The router IP is typically 192.168.0.1, but to double check. Open up command prompt and enter the command: ipconfig.
if it were his wireless device wouldnt the router be fine and showing all green lights?
keyword, "might." Go into the router settings on a computer with a wired connection and try to figure out what might of gotten changed. Another thing to try to do is assigning an IP Statically
thing is the ip address is static...the person at time warner told them it needed to be dynamic or it wasnt going to work. plus i wouldnt think wireless devices such as a ipod or laptop would cause the router to a flashinging orange light saying it cant obtain an ip address on 2 different routers. and the guy from time warner had him manualy change the ip address and it still didnt work.
might be the modem then. Though I find netgear routers to have that problem often, and Time Warner sucks. Their technitions aren't trained well
Funny, when I look up the manual for this router the wireless light doesn't list an orange color. Only solid blue and blinking blue. What exactly is orange? If all you want to do is change it to dynamic(default) then there is a pin hole on the back. Hold a paper clip in the hole while you turn it on. Resets back to default. Although you can do the same by accessing the router settings through the computer.
