There's still room for a few more nails in the lid of the coffin, but it seems like Net Neutrality Jesus won be able to rise again next year.
Thanks Obama...
It's over. WW3 has started...

There's the Wheeler I expected to see given his history.
Ut-oh informed citizens with choices and access to information! Kill it with fire! Kill it with laws!!
http://www.cnet.com/news/obama-pledges-net-neutrality-laws-if-elected-president/
saw this link while clicking about - Obama on net neutrality - thought it was worth sharing
someone needs to let these representatives and senators see the truth
nearly everyones paid off so they can afford to ignore the public sadly
as for trusting the president lol are you serious....its a political custerfuck
after reading that i actually typed up and sent out emails to both my senators, as well as my representative because we cant just let these companies push us around. Look at South Korea, who put through laws like our 1996 telecommunications act and actually followed through. They have the fastest internet in the world and the highest percentage of citizens with access to it. If the billions upon billions of dollars that these isps received in tax breaks were spent the way they were supposed to, then we could have gigabit into every home in america right now.
I think this is just the natural end of the current internet infrastructure, it's become too centralized, too vulnerable. "Their" greed will turn this iteration of the internet into interactive cable television & push people to create a mesh-net (or something else along those lines), & given the ever increasing rate at which new technology matures, "they" won't get another 2 decades to "kill it with laws".
And given how much they pissed off net-citizens, they can count on maximum predatorial strategies when it comes to crushing old business-models.
The "next netflix" isn't going to play nice, follow laws & pay protection money, the strategy is going to be wipe out the established big players in 6 month to a year with piracy & then go legit and fill the void.
I don't understand the doom & gloom, if you look at history technology beats laws every-time.
Also don't forget, the internet has had an enormous impact on politics, the elites lost allot of power & all their credibility. They aren't crushing us, they are struggling to not be crushed by us.
Well, so far the FCC is saying these so called "reports" claiming they are going to pull a U-turn and deal a death blow to net neutrality are "flat out wrong". So far the sources of these reports are unnamed.
Tom Wheeler, the FCC Chairman, is quoted as saying the following.
"There are reports that the FCC is gutting the Open Internet rule. They are flat out wrong.
"Tomorrow we will circulate to the Commission a new Open Internet proposal that will restore the concepts of net neutrality consistent with the court's ruling in January.
"There is no 'turnaround in policy'. The same rules will apply to all internet content. As with the original Open Internet rules, and consistent with the court's decision, behavior that harms consumers or competition will not be permitted."
So at this point, I am not totally convinced these claims are accurate.
This just goes to show that we cannot trust any politician with our views, values or concerns anymore. It's not that the system is broken or corrupted; it's that the people running it are broken and corrupted. :/
Step 1. Lock down freedom of speech and expression.
Step 2. welcome to dystopian society.
GG everyone. Gotta feel bad for the kids who will never know the wonders of the free web.
