Needs opinions and some tips on a 1300$ build

I am planning on building my first gaming PC in August, I have about 1500$, but that has to include tax and shipping so I am looking at about a 1300$ build. I do plan on upgrading the GPU, RAM, and adding an SSD in this build a few months later, maybe in January or February. Some of you may be thinking why not wait until then to build it, but I want to meet midway and start in August so I can run games at better a FPS than what my current PC gives me. I currently have an Asus G74SX and it runs most games nicely, but most newer games seem to hit it quite hard.

I live in Ontario, Canada. I do not plan on overclocking any time soon, though I may a year or two. I am not worried about noise. I have a monitor, mouse, and a keyboard. The future upgrades I plan on doing are a GTX 780 ti, a 16GB RAM kit (probably Corsair Vengeance, I am open to suggestions), and a Samsung 840 Pro SSD.

I plan on ordering the parts from Canada Computers. Current parts I am looking at:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor $259.00

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 $79.99

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard $180.00

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory $101.99

Hard drive: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $94.99

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card $239.00

Case: Cooler Master HAF X ATX Full Tower Case $194.99

Power Supply: Corsair TX750 V2 $114.88

I plan on ordering the parts from Canada Computers which has has the same or similar prices.

Is there anything I should change? I am unsure about the motherboard, I did do some research and this one came up quite a few times as a decent one, should I change it? Or is it good enough. I also didn't know what to do for thermal compound so does anyone have any suggestions for that? Also is the Haf X good for my build? I chose it based off of high air flow as my PC will be air cooled.

I am sorry if my post is hard to read, I am not very good at writing.

I would go with a stronger gpu than the 660. 760 maybe but not a 660. Always try and purchase the strongest gpu you can afford. It will save you money in the long run. For nvidia cards, i personally would go for a 770 780 or a pair of sli 760 would also be nice. If your into that kind of thing. I am sure someone here can help you refine the intel side of your build.

do you really need a full tower? save yourself like $85, which you can put towards getting like a 770 like Freaksmacker said, and go with a Fractal Design Arc midi r2.

thermal paste, Arctic Cooling MX4

It's over my budget, but I may be able to manage.

If you are already considering going over budget to a 1600$ build than you could afford this build it already has a 780ti acx icluded so you dont need to upgrade in the future. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2WD1G

ps. Looking at the prices i wouldnt buy the parts from canada computers looks like they are quite overpricing their parts (or are the prices in canadian dollars? i have no idea what the conversion rate is for the canadian dollar so than it might be good).
i made this build on partpickers with american prices so you might need to add another 50-100$ fr shipping

Yeah, my prices are in CAD. Would you reccomend the Asus Z87 Pro over the Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H? As for upgrading to the 780ti, I probably will.

Hello there,

I am also a Canadian and recently did a build and I would recommend purchasing whatever parts you can find on Direct Canada rather than Canada Computers because their prices tend to be the lowest and you get free shipping over a $50 order(comes in handy for large shipping rates for cases). I also did own a G74SX as well lol. I owned it for about 2.5 years and it was a great machine and like you it just wasn't performing as well as I'd like to with newer games.

Anyway's, to the parts here's what I'd build:

Noctua's thermal paste that comes with their coolers does quite well. If you want to just use that it'll save you some lunch money.

Do you plan to overclock? If not, then both the cooler and the motherboard are overkill. The Asrock B85 or H87 Fatal1ty are very, very good for the money (watch Wendell's review). The Z motherboards are not for gaming, are for overclocking.

Ok, thank for the suggestion. I will definitely look at Direct Canada.

I probably will end up over clocking in a year or two, but I may also upgrade to an i7, or if a new chip is released and on the same socket I will upgrade to that.

Basically I want to have the ability to overclock just in case.

then just use the stock cooler untill you deside to start overclocking. saves a big chunk of money that you wouldn't even be utilizing
