Hi, A friend and I have been under constant DDoS attack for 8 months now. We are really fed up with it, and would like some assistance. If someone can help up trace these attacks I would be greatly appreciated, we are willing to pay for this. If anyone knows any places on TOR (Yes, I know...) Or anywhere else where we can contact some people it would be greatly appreciated.
So some background knowledge. A friend and I have been getting DDoSed for about 8 months, generally when we play games, we found some simple software where you can find out a Steam users IP from a Steam lobby game e.g (aoe II, l4d). We have been playing Rust lately and it is still happening, I am about 80% sure the software doesn't work with Rust (even though we still get attacked), but it definitely works with aoe II and we get DDoSed within minutes of a aoe lobby. We very sure it is related to Steam, however our profiles are set to private and we are offline.
So please help, we are really struggling, we will pay anyone that can help us figure out who this wanker is!
You could call your ISP and ask for a new IP address. Or manual reset/request a new one with your router. I'm sure the ISP should have the IP address in question too. You can try out some free vpn while you're at it to stop it a bit.
So when you say ddosed, what kind of effect is it actually having on your connection?
It seems likely someone on your friends list is following you into games and doing it. Maybe get rid of anyone who isnt a friend and lock down your steam profile, then you cant be followed.
I love it how you italic wanker But yeah, changing your IP should help but it wont get rid of the guy.
Think about it, the person most likely knows your Steam profile. From that when he sees you playing a game it doesn't matter how many times you have changed your IP, he will still find it again from the software.
Now Ill be honest, I don't really know much about this but I can understand how it works. If worse gets to worst you can first: delete all of your friends to make sure he can't follow you. Second: make a new account, full privacy settings, then only add people you KNOW aren't going to Ddos you, then change your IP. From the hackers perspective, he wont know where you are, he will have lost you.
Anyway, 8 months! How could you survive for 8 months of attacks?!
If you have a lot of games you paid for, Im sure if you contact Steam and explain the situation, they'll give you your games, I mean that sounds fair.
If it's a bit more serious and the guy has hacked your account in some way then you might have to, again, contact Steam and explain whats all been happening.
So, my IP is dynamic, my profile is private even to my friends, and I've only got people I know irl... We've tried just about everything. Steam dont care so yeah... Because I live Australia I am on ADSL 1 so its a heap of shite and my connection just dies. And that's that... It's horrible... And well basically we keep gaming to a minimum, we sometimes tempt fate but its crappy as. Basically we want to find out who it is, we're both running PFSENSE and have lots of logs.
Yeah if he's been getting DDoS'd for 8 months, he must have a cult like following... Maybe his home router has just gone sour and overheats, or has a memory leak that makes things slow down fast.
Yeah can't play games over VPN lags like a mother trucker. No, believe me 8 months... I've was on the phone to Telstra for ages, they stopped it for a little while but it came back. And my mate experiencing the same (different ISP) when Telstra stopped it for a bit. And if you read it, I have a PFSense Router, running some fairly beefy hardware for a router. So please, do not doubt me, I am definitely getting DDoSed look at these logs, and the traffic graph maxes out with nothing being pulled in the LAN side.
It's not constant, but its definitely a DDoS. And no not always in games, buts it a common factor. We will get DDoS'd in a game then once it's finished 10 minutes later it'll go again if we haven't changed IP. Each attack goes between 4-10 minutes. Also the school I go to, was getting done as well. I spoke the IT blokes and they showed me graphs and everything it was taking out an education/business connection that has a fair bit of bandwidth.
the game your playing could be causing one of your ports to be open by universal plug and play. try disabling UNPNP on your router and making application specific rules in your firewall. also try changing the port the game uses by default if the game has an option for it.
if it's a problem with Telstra, tell them your going to the ACCC, as the activity is causing your downloads to be used constantly, and their refusal to investigate is financially benefiting them from illegal action against you.... something along those lines, look into the technicalities of such a process though...
also their failure to do so means that you are not recieving the service you are paying for and demand a refund for the last 8 months etc
Here is what my problem has been with this whole thing, why would anyone want to DDoS you? What motivation would someone have? Are you a twitch streamer and not telling us, or are you well known in some way that would explain this? You don't have to tell us who you are, but is this just you and your buddy playing games or are you and your buddy kind of well known figures in some way?
I have to say last year I had someone hack me for 3 months just to screw with me... got bogus emails loaded straight into outlook, fake responses to emails, emails not received despite being sent etc, but nothing "criminal" (as in monetary) and it has made things fucking hard for me.... so it could be just for the 'lulz" (ps - also in Aus)
