Need some help for PC Upgrades

Hey Everyone

I am looking to upgrade my current budget gaming computer which consists of:

CPU: AMD Phennom ii X4 810 2.6ghz OC'd 3.4 Quadcore  - Temps = max at 65 C

Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FXA-D3 AM3

PSU: Thermaltke Litepower 700w

GPU: MSI 7870 OC Edition - Temps max at around 80-85 - to hot for my liking in the case i got.

Case: 80mm exhaust, 120 mm fan side - case is only for now

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

Ram: Kingston 8gb 1333mhz

I am thinking of either switching Over to intel or moving up to and AMD 8350.

My first question is how much of an upgrade will this 8350 be and will it still be viable in coming 1-2 years?

Second, will my power supply be able to handle overclocks of the 8350 and in a years time maybe a 290?

Third, Should i upgrade my ram to a faster speed ram? i have heard the FX series tends to be better on faster ram.

I have to upgrade my case as a must (i have a really bad stock case) to a corsair carbide 500r white,

I have to opportunity to buy a new motherboard as i will have to ship mine off soon for fixing under warranty (faulty) so this is where i ask would it be worth moving over to intel?

Also will cpu change FPS is many games, would it improve only slightly?

Budget is about $500 in upgrades without the case hopefully.

On another note i am getting a good deal on a gaming mouse and headset: Plantronics 780 and Thermaltke Level 10 M gaming mouse, is the mouse overkill? and yeah thoughts on mouse would be appreciated (i am getting it for $80 if i choose to buy the mouse)

Thanks all, all advice is appreciated.

q1: It will be a vast improvement, and yes, it will.

q2: Yes, it will

q3: No. Ram speed doesn't really matter unless you are using an APU.

q4: The corsair carbide 500r is not by any means a bad choice.

q5: you will need a new motherboard either way, but an AMD will be only a few FPS behind an Intel, and It will be a lot cheaper.

q6: You will see some FPS gains in most games, but you will see a dramatic increase only in fairly recently released games that take advantage of more then four cores.

q7: That's a pretty nice mouse, but don't buy a gaming headset. For your money, a low end audiophile headphone like the CAL! will give you a better audio experience.

Thanks a lot for the advice, only reason i would be getting a new headset is mine broke (held on by blue tack hahaha) and a loy of my mates said its durable, but might find a cheaper alternative,

Another question is what motherboard should i upgrade to, after i get my motherboard fixed i am thinking of selling it for $100 but will need new one, would it be much of an upgrade to an Gigabye 990FXA-UD3 from a -D3? please give suggestions around 200 or less price range.

Also I am asking for more reviews on the mouse because i dont have really small hands but i don't have big hands either, supposedly also weighs a bit.

Thanks a lot again

The 8350 is a great CPU, and will get better, especially in gaming, in the next 1-2 years.  More developers are optimizing their programs for 8 core CPUs.  It'll be a pretty good improvement over your current CPU.

Your PSU should be fine.  I couldn't find it's rating, but I wouldn't be surprised if it handles two HD 7850s in crossfire.

1333mhz is a little bit on the low side, but it's fine for the most part.  The difference between 1333 and 1866 may be 2-3 fps.

The thing that affects your FPS the most is the GPU.  Upgrading the GPU will be a great improvement to your FPS.

My mouse I use for gaming is 10 bucks.  It works for me.  I don't know anything about the mouse you stated.

Thanks for the infomation guys,

Can you please give some suggestions for Motherboards around $200 or less for the 8350 and if the 990FXA-D3 worth keeping or moving up to 990FXa-UD3?

I will want to be overclocking as well.

Thanks

The 990FXA-D3 should be good enough for a 8350 with it's 8+2 power phase design.

For better overclocking, this would be better:

Thanks all :)
