My 2TB hard drive is making a clicking sound and randomly crashes during read/write operation so I want to get a new one. It needs to be reliable and speed doesn't matter much since I use it for long term storage (backup's and our picture library and stuff).
My 2TB drive isn't even a year old, are big hard drives not that reliable or is it just a faulty model?
I hope you guys can give me some advice for a good hard drive (2-3 TB)
I've never had good luck with Seagate. Samsungs are good hard drive but Western Digital has my heart. I would get a Western Digital Green or Black HDD, But the black has more speed, the green drives save on power
I personally wouldn't go for a green. They're too slow for me, but then again I won't settle for anything less than a RAID 0 configuration. I swear I heard somewhere that the green drives aren't as reliable, but I can't really confirm that. I would get at least a blue drive if I were you, but that's because I'm a speed freak, even when it comes to my storage drives.
There isnt really any benefit of getting a 'green' drive as they are just slower, the WD Blacks seem as reliable but are allot faster.
Seagate even came out and said they stopped making the 'green' driver because they were pointless, they dont save any energy and something as little as $1.50 per year. It was just a marketing thing really.
I've got a 1TB WD Green (5200RPM) , and a WD blue. I can honestly say the price difference between them is not worth it. Programs/games do not load faster on the Green drive, well they must do slightly but it's not at all noticable. You'll only notice a difference if you're using it as a boot drive (which you are not). So I say go for a green drive. Nice and quiet, too.
