Need reliable Hard Drive

My 2TB hard drive is making a clicking sound and randomly crashes during read/write operation so I want to get a new one. It needs to be reliable and speed doesn't matter much since I use it for long term storage (backup's and our picture library and stuff).

My 2TB drive isn't even a year old, are big hard drives not that reliable or is it just a faulty model?

I hope you guys can give me some advice for a good hard drive (2-3 TB)

Thanks in advance,

Jinior

I have fine experiences with Western Digital Black drives. So far, never had one die on me.

Thou shalt use Seagate or Western Digital only.

What brand hard drive are you using?

Can't go wrong with Western Digital. Haven't had any troubles with my drives so far. (for about 3 years now)

I haven't either, for 10+ years now. my old 80Gig is still running like a champ

I'm using a 1TB Samsung S3 as my os drive and a 2TB external seagate drive that is failing me.

has anyone got experience with western digital green drives?
Considering this one atm http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136891

I've never had good luck with Seagate. Samsungs are good hard drive but Western Digital has my heart. I would get a Western Digital Green or Black HDD, But the black has more speed, the green drives save on power

go for it. Though the performance isn't as good as the black drives. But they do save on power

I personally wouldn't go for a green. They're too slow for me, but then again I won't settle for anything less than a RAID 0 configuration. I swear I heard somewhere that the green drives aren't as reliable, but I can't really confirm that. I would get at least a blue drive if I were you, but that's because I'm a speed freak, even when it comes to my storage drives.

There isnt really any benefit of getting a 'green' drive as they are just slower, the WD Blacks seem as reliable but are allot faster.

Seagate even came out and said they stopped making the 'green' driver because they were pointless, they dont save any energy and something as little as $1.50 per year. It was just a marketing thing really.

Speed really doesn't matter for this drive and the green is still cheaper than the black one so I think it's the best bet for me

What about blue?

I've got a 1TB WD Green (5200RPM) , and a WD blue. I can honestly say the price difference between them is not worth it. Programs/games do not load faster on the Green drive, well they must do slightly but it's not at all noticable. You'll only notice a difference if you're using it as a boot drive (which you are not). So I say go for a green drive. Nice and quiet, too.
