I'm not sure if melodic is the right word for it, but ive been getting music with a lot of lead guitar dependancy. Ill give a few examples, hopefully you guys can introduce me to similar bands.
this wiki list is worth checking out. there are a few really good bands listed here, can't think of any others to recommend not already mentioned though.
This may not be exactly what you're looking for but check out "David Maxim Micic" and "Animals as Leaders"
They aren't at all like the first band (much more technical guitar and more tasteful drums than just constant blast beats) but they are right up the same alley as CHON. They both play extended ranged guitars and shred the hell out of them.
If you are looking to getting into Melodic Death Metal here are some bands.
The Original Three - In Flames,Dark Tranquility,At the Gates
The Norse/Viking Guys - Amon Amarth,Ensiferum,Wintersun,Enslaved,Kalmah
The Swedes - Soilwork,Hypocrisy,Arch Enemy,Children of Bodom,Darkane,Scar Symmetry
The Non-Swedes - Be'lakor,Dethklok,Eluveitie
After those it gets into lesser known bands. All are a variation of the original three, some of them with folk elements, some of them with the focus on speed/technicality,some of them with the focus on dark mood.
Man it took me forever to think of something, after everthing that is listed..
You can do what I do..When I need new music..Go to last.fm and put in the band you looking for, then the radio function will play all types of music related to and very similar to the band you put in...I use this to find new and rare bands..
This is great lol..Metal will never die..

Dimmu Borgir gets a lot of hate, but I really really like the melodic stuff. Listen to their Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia album, and the new Abrahadabra. Both of those are really melodic. Anything before Puritanical is closer to fo shizzle black metal and is significantly less noticibly melodic.
Also note that Abrahadabra didn't have the bassist/operatic clean vocalist ICS Vortex and the keyboardidst Mustis that were about half of the awesome of the band. Still good stuff though.
