I would honestly like to see more tek enterprise videos. They're pretty educational and I'm sure its Wendell adding the extra pretty. Please let me know when a new video might come out and maybe even the topic it'll cover.
I was starting to feel like we were getting too many channels. How do you feel about the tutorials being on the main channel and the enterprise hardware just going on the regular hardware channel. The idea is that this stuff should be interesting to everyone because the enterprise gear is one step ahead and will get people talking and thinking about possibilities.
If Possible i feel like it could be organized much better.
Tek Syndicate Channel - Software Reviews / "The Tek"
Tek Linux Channel - All Linux Related Topics
Tek Hardware Channel - Case Reviews / GPUs / Audio Equipment / Mobile / Monitors / Enterprise Equipment, the Whole Nine Yards.
BeerGamesBeer Channel - ALL gaming related topics. stuff like Streaming Clips from yourself, Pistol and Qain. your Tabletop game videos / clips from PDX Lan or any LAN related events and W.A.S.D clips.
One channel to govern them all seems like the best approach. I don't like being subscribed to fifty of the same channel. What about Shennanigans Syndicate? When will see a video there :)
Not a fan of that idea honestly. But I'll reject that idea and add some positive criticism. The presentation of Tek Enterprise is something I enjoyed, surprisingly enough, the 10g netgear switch video was the first video produced by you guys that I had seen. The format of "Explain, test, stress" is one I think could benefit a lot of people. The video I have in mind is the one where Wendell put BTRFS through its paces and while it was more technical and not everyone could understand it, it was very informative for the ones who could. I digress, maybe the future of the channels could involve (beer games beer) for the least technical explanation and more casual content, (The Tek) for the main channel for a hybrid situation, and (Tek Enterprise) for those with an insatiable technical information thirst. But all three are needed, I'm sure even Wendell with all of his bearded wizard knowldge get burned out some times and just wants to stare at a cat video.
We have probably a "round table" of "We brought the nas back from the dead!" 5 min vid on the main channel with a longer video on TekLinux about apt-get build-deps and stuff to actually 1) browse the github repo and read about what has come before and 2) patch the zfs source code/kernel module and recompilations that go with that. So it might be the main channel has the digest goofy version and the teklinux channel has the 45 minute thing.
The part that makes me weep for humanity is that it would be better for our bottom line if we threw bananas at each other for 5 minutes and just spammed the channel(s) with swill as many others do vs producing 30-60 minutes of somewhat well-planned in-depth stuff.
p.s. I've got more coverage of the 10g switch coming up. It's just so dense I find I have to learn the material really well and double check my assumptions to make sure why I think something is congruent with reality, and that takes a lot of work. Which, because of my inherent laziness, makes me lust after just doing the banana shenanigans. Weep for humanity, feel bad for being a sloth, lather, rinse, repeat. lol.
I've been thinking about this since Tek Linux was created. I think the single channel with multiple "programs" method is the best approach. I like having everything in one big bucket that I can look through and know that I won't be missing anything - especially since Youtube's subscription alerts can be pretty terrible at times. I think this would help viewership as well. Someone without any interest in enterprise or Linux content, who's looking to watch The Tek or WASD might scan the channel and see an interestingly titled enterprise/linux video and decide to check it out. I'm not a Youtuber though, so this could be totally inaccurate - @Logan or @wendell would have to weigh in on that.
In my opinion, several good examples of channels that pack a bunch of different "programs" into a single bucket are Geek & Sundry and Tested. Both channels have different "programs", some of which I am interested in and some of which I'm not. I don't find it difficult to navigate through and I think it keeps things centralized - a "one-stop shop for all things . . .". As long as content is kept organized, with each "program" getting its own playlist section and video titles/thumbnails are well labelled, I don't think folks would have a problem scanning through things and finding what interests them.
If the focus of Tek Syndicate switches to banana shenanigans then I'd only continue to watch if the nyan cat song was played in every video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QH2-TGUlwu4 On a serious note, I understand there's a lot of behind the scenes politics that go on and I'm still appreciative of what you guys are able to accomplish. Just know that I enjoy it all from the casual content to the hard core stuff which I have used to teach myself a good bit of computer skills.
All in all I really don't care where the content is, I'd just like to see more of the same style stuff that's on the Enterprise channel with a nice, easy to not scroll past title on the main channel, for me would be great.
This is just my opinion, but I really think it should just be The main channel and the Linux channel. If people don't like certain videos they should just not watch them. I think even the 3 main tek channels are to much. I would love to see all of the main content, tek, reviews, tutorials on one channel, I hate having to look threw several channels to find content. But I do understand the reasons behind it, and while I wont argue with it, I would simply prefer if we could just all deal with everyone having one channel on youtube, and make playlists, etc.
See you really dont want to spread yourself too thin.. I loved the hardware reviews and I would love to see more of them.. Like a lot of them.. Because you guys actually make legit reviews.. I trust your reviews vs a lot of others. Heck I got the SteelSeries 9H after your review and man am I happy for doing that
Totally agree. I love me some hardware reviews. The only reviews I trust at all are TS and HardwareCanucks. The content on off-brand monitors is great too for those looking to save some cash. Not many other channels are doing that at all.
I don't mind sepparated channels but i think that i would prefer an "all in one" kinda thing But if you still want different channels i think that you just keep to the main one, the linux and the hardware, being that all shenanigans and gaming stuff would be on the main one
(Plus, it will be cool to see more kinda of chilled videos when you just show of something cool you are working on or such)
I really like the tutorials, I think it would cool to have them on the main channel, I hope to see more tutorials in the future.
I'm torn on the enterprise videos, they usually show some cool technology but I feel it's a bit out of reach. Enterprise gear is expensive and therefore unpractical for most viewers. I always felt that this community was directed toward being more pragmatic, but enterprise level gear is just a bit much.
I think it would be cool to have more Beergamesbeer content. Maybe play some Sword Coast Legends or Witcher 3?
Plz don't change lol
Also, I can't wait for the NAS video, should be fun.
The enterprise stuff is great. It's not only informative but give me at least ideas and things to consider. It also let's us see technology and things that we may not have access to right now.
I get that it may not be as popular as the regular tek stuff that does quite well but I think it's great stuff that adds value to everything you guys do.
Enterprise gear, for me, is the most orgasmic part of IT. I just watch it for the brilliant engineering (and thinking about building 10Gbit ethernet one day). Please, keep it going!
I dont see it as a problem, really. Im happy to subscribe to all of them as long as they have interesting content. It feels more organised that way for me. And everyone else can choose which type of content they want to watch.
Yes, pls do more tutorials, im eager to learn new stuff and you guys can present it in easy-to-understand way. As Im finally working in IT job, I would love to see more enterprise stuff both hardware and software (NAS, FreeNAS, monitoring, remote control, backups, synchronization etc...) and also more mobile aplications, in depth reviews etc...
I understand that not everyone would be interested in same exact stuff as your viewer base grows, thats why multiple channels seems as a good idea to me.
