i want to have an xbox 360 and a pc hooked up to one moniter be able to switch in between. my moniter has 1 dvi and no hdmi and i have a hdmi to dvi cable for it but how to i have them both be able to work with out having to reach around and change them manually
You will need a dvi switch. this will work unless your resolution is >1600x1200

DVI switches are pretty common, i'm sure you could find one at best buy.
