Hey I'm building a new PC. And first i put on the stock intel cooler that comes with. Now I'm going to upgrade to a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. I'm just wondering if I can remove the thermal paste from the CPU with a coffee filter and some acetone? Or do i have to do some other way?:)
yes you can, and it will remove the visible paste, but the paste in the microscopic channels of the heatspreder will remain. Its not a big issue but it will raise your cpu temps by 1-2 degrees celcuis. If you want it completeley removed i suggest Arcticlean thermal paste remover, it works a treat.
Alright, I just used the acetone and it turned out pretty good, I used my sisters makeup remover pad thingys. They worked like a charm to get it off:)
I used 90 proof alcohol and q-tips and coffee filters to remove my thermal paste.
