Need help with my CompactFlash memory card

PLEASE HELP! For some reason, windows is seeing my 32 GB Transcend compact flash card as only 32 MB and is not allowing me to open it, nor format it.

I have tried to format it from my pc and the partition section, but it fails in both instances.

So two questions come to mind, what OS are you trying to format the card on right now? Have you tried reformatting it in your camera?

Also nice portfolio, come by the Photography subforum some time.

I'm using Windows 8.1

I've tried formatting in the camera, but that's also failed.

Thanks :) I'll check it out.

I assume there is nothing you want off the card and only want to format / write to it again?

It's probably a long shot but, have you tried right-clicking on the CF card drive hitting properties and then going to the 'tools' tab and running error-checking?

If you had a SanDisk card you could have tried their recovery pro software which worked for me in the past. I actually just bought 3 SanDisk cards but threw the codes out or I'd have given you one.

No, there's nothing on there I need. It won't run error checking. The weirdest thing is that it is seeing my 32 GB card as only 32 MB

Know what you mean regarding the confusion over capacity...

Is the card new or have you been using it for a while. If it won't format on either the camera or PC then I think it may have died. A dedicated recovery program may get it working again but I personally wouldn't trust the card after that if you know what I mean.

I've had it over a year.

You might want to give Partition Wizard a try or even Gparted from a live Linux thumbdrive. If neither of those solutions work I would contact Transcend and/or the vendor to see if you're able to preform an exchange.

This usually happens with me in windows when formatting SD cards. I think it's because windows doesn't understand the partition layout. There may be special programs for formatting compact flash memory cards on windows, just like the special tools for SD cards. Linux might be able to fix it with gparted.
