I am currently thinking about buying the Asus M5A97 R2.0 Socket AM3+ 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard. I am wondering if this motherboard includes wifi? Or will I need to buy a wifi adapter.
I am new to pc building and have no idea where to find information about it.
A quick look at the I/O says your answer is "no", however you can get a add in card for fairly cheap.
Do you have any recommendations for one? one of which that is compatible with windows 8
I have a solution for you, it's ideal since you want Micro ATX form-factor for some portability, however Crossfire /SLI capabilities as well. Just get an LGA-1366 ASUS Rampage Gene III, buy an X5690 off of E-bay if possible, then buy this specific memory, http://www.antarespro.com/8653742-item-Crucial-CT2K16G3ERVLD4160B-649528763990.aspx . You'll need to buy a quantity of 3 of those 2x16 GB kits to max out the number of slots the board has, however once you do you will have 96 GB RAM, this exceeds your 64 GB requirement, and you'll have the most powerful LGA1366 CPU ever made (mine scores a passmark of over 11,500!, overclocked, that translates into about 2000 per thread!!!). BTW the X5690 supports a máximum of 288 GB of RAM!!! However, DDR3 memory modules don't go over 16 GB for 1.35 volt low profile memory, so although the CPU can support a massive amount over 96 GB, the low voltage modules I recommend are limited to 16 GB. This is the case I recommend to house this massive amount of power in:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144141 . The case I recommend has an alluminum handle in front which allows for portability and so this really is your best solution right now. Not even Sandy Bridge /Ivy Bridge has this "hidden" capability to go over 48-64 GB RAM!!!
I said requirement of 64 GB ram meaning that most modern motherboards are limited to 64 GB ram especially Micro ATX with the exception of the Rampage Gene III, ignore the fact that ASUS website lists it at 24, the X5690 CPU "removes" that "limitation", not only am I running with 96 GB ram however it is overclocked to 1640 mhz with an overclock of 4 Ghz on my X5690, AWESOME!!!! :) I can edit 8k video with this and that's still 5 years off hahaaaaa!!!! Not even Apple's trash can can compare LOL!!!!!!!
I have no idea what I just read...
What don't you understand about what I said?
I'm extremely new to computer building.
Daniel, watch newegg's How to build a pc. It's very informative and it will help you be an informed shopper when searching for a motherboard. What I would do first is look at the chipsets that a motherboard has like Intel's H87, Z87, H81 etc, etc and cross off what you do and dont need like overclocking and SLI/CrossFire and even the amount of SATA ports you need.
I just recommended the older LGA 1366 because it's gone down in price making it easier to afford and still gives him everything he needs and then some since it's still an enthusiast platform plus what I discovered about my particular motherboard (Rampage Gene III) makes it that much more desirable seeing as though I have yet to find another micro ATX board out there enthusiast class or not that can take 96 GB of ram when coupled with the X5690 Processor...again AWESOME!!!
Even to run a mid level business my machine is desirable!
There are no AMD AM3+ boards with onboard wifi, you will need to use a pci-e wifi card.
i would recommend to grab a 990FX chipset board, cause these boards have more pci-e lanes. This makes kinda sense.
Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0, and buy a pci-e wlan card. This board is also much better suitable for AMD FX8 core processors, 6+2 powerphase digi vrm. instead of only 4+2 on the Asus M5A97 R2.0
Good for you! However, your suggestion seems quite off topic though.
