Need help with i7 6700k and Asus z170 AR MB

Well I got my i7 6700k and paired it with a Asus z170 AR MB. I updated the bios and Intel chip set drivers. I loaded Win 10 and everything seemed ok. Got booted up and started to download some programs and all of a sudden my mouse curser would not move. The system was still running and could see HD light still flickering but screen was frozen only way was to reset, CTRL ALT DEL did nothing. I thought maybe just a one off thing so rebooted inserted a flash drive to transfer some media and was watching youtube and flash drive stopped and again mouse would not move. then I heard a sound like when you insert or remove flash drive and drive was working again as was mouse. I have been trying everything including installing Win 8.1 thinking maybe it was a 10 problem. It ran better for a bit then same problem. Luckly I bought this with 2yr warranty plan from Micro Center so am thing about taking the MB back and getting a new one but after reading some stuff online I am wondering if this is a skylake issue. I don't wanna spend $400 MB just to get it to work. I have 5 more days to return everything so should I try new MB first or just get a haswell 4790k as it is more mature architecture. I did do a mem test and my mem is fine. This happens with XMP or stock also happens with OC CPU and stock.

I would rather say this is not really a Skylake issue, more like an Asus issue... Z170 series consists of 315 models of the same board, and many many many of them have issues with whatever the hell...
OK, my first idea: Are you sure that things are plugged in the proper generic plugs? Those overpriced crap high end boards like to have an extra Sata controller, that requires additional drivers installed, additional USB controller, that also require drivers, to bring the total number of USB ports to 76, because the native 60 will not be enough...
So, now that my rant is over, are you sure you have plugged things in the native ports and not in some additional ports, that requires drivers, and are you sure you have installed all the drivers properly?

Thanks for the reply man. Been going nuts, yeah double checked all connections and I updated everything from Asus website, USB drivers, Sata drivers, Chipset, Bios was flashed b4 I even installed OS.
So with Skylake I gotta just try and get another board and hope for the best? That stinks. I am really considering saying F this and getting a freakin Haswell.

my only question for you is this. how many things are you installing at once? if it's more than 2 or 3 then your OS is freezing on you due to HDD activity. but if it's just one then i suggest updating windows first before you install everything you need and or secure programs that gather the meta-data.
