hey guys, i may need help with my upgrade. Im looking at an i7 build with more ram, and a better mobo (i prefer asus or gigabyte), gold modular supply and cpu cooler. I know there's no point in a cpu cooler if im not overclocking but i need it for my build to run quieter (that's just a thought, i may overclock)
hey im looking to live stream with this build and do other multi-tasking stuff like music production or video editing/rendering. I forgot to include soundcard for a pci slot
Your build seems fine. Yes an i7 or ht xeon would be nicer for workstation tasks but unless you can justify the expense its just not worth it. I'd sooner buy a nice 32"ips monitor. For a really noticeable increase in performance for editing/rendering/audio work you'd want to go for a x99 setup. Any old compatible cpu cooler for your current i5 + low noise fan (noctua) will work a treat.
I thought x99 are for ddr4 ram. And it would be kind of useless for it, if im not buying a 5960x. Im not sure how xeons would also be good for gaming if you pair it against the 4790k (keep in mind I also game a lot). My budget would be under a grand and which noctua cpu cooler would you recommend?
Keep Current mb: CPU i'd get - Xeon 1231v3 - quad core, 8 threads - just like an i7 but without the igpu. Not really oc'able in the conventional sense but you can play with the blck a little for a slight oc. + quiet cpu cooler - noctua u9... or whatever really - just add a noctua pwn fan. + Another kit of ram (matched) so you have 16gb. + Samsung 850 500gb for OS & games - then use your 128gb as a scratch disk for editing. + nicer psu - XFX gold, fully modular - 650w so you have loads of headroom and it will be at its highest efficiency
