Need help choosing a CPU for my new gaming pc

Hello everyone.

I'm looking at three CPUs for my new gaming PC but I can't decide which one to chose. I will be using a GTX 760 graphics card with the CPU. I want to play games that are out at the moment like next car game,DayZ, Assassins creed black flag, Dirt showdown, grid autosport and many more. I would like to play these games at high/ultra settings at 1080p. I also want to play games that will be coming out in the future .

Reasons I'm considering the AMD FX 8350

Some games I want to play have recommended requirements that say "Intel i7 or AMD bulldozer"

Higher clock speed

Will probably preform better in future games as they start to take advantage of more threads/cores

I can overclock it however I would be nervous about doing it manually because I have never overclocked before. is there any software that can do it for me?

Reasons I'm considering the Intel i5 4670 (non K)

It is on a new socket so it will probably be easier to upgrade in a few years as more CPUs use this socket.

Will probably have better performance in single threaded applications and games that use one or two cores (but they are mainly strategy games and I don't like them).

Reasons I'm considering the Intel xeon E3-1230v3

The same reasons as the i5 as well as...

i7 4770 performance for £20 more than the i5 4670

Hyper threading

What one should I get for my new gaming PC.and what one will last me the longest. If you have any of these CPUs can you please let me know what you think of it.

Thank you for your help

I'd narrow it down to the 8350 of the Xeon. I have both and they are fabulous parts. The Xeon will work much better in DayZ considering how shittily optimized the ARMA Engine is and will be faster overall. Especially if you keep the 8350 at sock speeds. That being said the 8350 or the 8320 will be a bit cheaper and OCing is quite easy. They are on an older platform though.

You should laugh at the recommend requirements of any game. An i5 performs equally well as an i7 in gaming. The thought of an i7 being recommended is a massive facepalm.

I remember you from a previous thread. I thought you had settled on the Xeon.

My opinion, and my opinion only:

If you are going to buy an AMD, buy the 8320 not the 8350, its literally the same chip. Just bump the multiplier, and you saved $50 bucks, if you buy an ASUS board, it will automatically overclock it for you and do a pretty good job.

On the i5, if you are going to go Intel, buy the K. If you didnt want to tinker and learn about computers, you would have bought a Dell. The price differance on the K is well worth the perfromance u will gian with even a MODEST overclock.

On the Xeon, WHY? What critical applications require a Xeon? This is a gaming machine, not a server.

I have the i5 4670k and i love it. My neighbor has an 8320 that I built for him. He loves it.

All in personal preference. You've got the numbers

I did but then I was just browsing YouTube and came across the first video I linked and that got me thinking. The x3eon is still the one I'm most likely to get but the AMD entered the debate and I started to over think things.

Xeon is an i7 with no iGPU for i5 money. While I would personally get a K part and overclock, the Xeon would be tempting. Let's not forget that the FX line were server parts, initially.

Yes it has the Xeon name and can use ECC RAM but in reality the 1230 V3  is just an i7-4770 without the iGPU but it is much much cheaper. Only a bit more than an i5. It makes it a perfect choice for someone who wants to game and do productivity.
