Need good MoBo for overclocking FX 8350

I live in Australia first of all, and i am new to the overclocking. What is the best and cheapest MoBo for an 8350 if you can get good overclocks? I do not plan to use multiple gpus also

ASUS M5A99X EVO Motherboard R2

ASRock 990FX Extreme4 Motherboard

ASUS M5A99FX-PRO-R2 Motherboard

then up from there $$$ wise - sabretooth etc. Either way a 990 chipset is needed and dont go too cheap - read some reviews etc. I'd probably swing towards the asus boards myself.

Check static ice for cheapest local oz prices. PCCG is always a good option, Australia wide. Great seller and top service.

I have the ASUS M5A99X EVO Motherboard R2, hit 5gHz on it with my 8350. Well worth the money.

im looking at the m5a970 version instead of a 990x

would it clock the same it has the same power phase

No! Only if you can find the Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 that board has the same vrm´s and powerphase design as the M5A99X evo and M5A99FX Pro R2.0.

yes i found a m5a97 evo r2 the only resign i dont want to get a 990fx is because ther a bit pricecy but ill have a look at the 990

+1 for ASUS M5A99FX-PRO-R2 Motherboard

Think everyone here would agree that overclocking and cheap can leave you with a possible bad experience if your new to overclocking, not that you should spend thousands on parts, but holding off and saving up a while extra for a slightly higher quality mobo geared more toward overclocking could make your experience that much nicer.

spend a little extra to save yourself a whole lot.

what would be a good board to overclock besides sabertooth and crosshair v formula z.

is it worth to overclock just for a little bit extra for the price because if i dont overclock can i just get any cheap motherboard.

if i do over clock i only want to get like 4.4 or 4.5 on a 8350 or 4.3 or somethign on a 8320 would that be ok for the m5A97 evo r2.0 because y is it safer with a sabertooth than a m5a97 evo r2.0

i got a 4.8 on a biostar 990fx board, it stayed around 35ish on a 120mm closed water system my first time ever overclocking a CPU

If i wasn't going to overclock then which mobo is best? Not the most expensive just a bit cheap but decent

Gigabyte GA970-UD3 has 8+2 phases.

The power phase design has nothing to do with the chipset. It's just that high-end boards with good power phase designs also tend to use more high-end chipsets.

the Gigabyte 970A-UD3 has the same number of phases as the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, and more than the Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0, so it would be better for OC.

take a look at this: http://www.overclock.net/t/946407/amd-motherboards-vrm-info-database

you wrong on this point, its not only the amount of powerphases that are important, but also the quality of the vrm´s and chokes used.

The Gigabyte GA970/990FX ud3, have 8+2 powerphases, but theire vrm´s and  chockes are from  not the best quality, some people have a lot of luck with thease board, but most people have well known overheating vrm´s / chokes and northbridge chip issues.

The Asus boards have better quality power dillivery parts.

the Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0 is a better board then the gigabyte ud3.

huh... PCCG told me they weren't getting the EVO back in, but apparently they have... anyway that or the pro are as far as i know essentially on par for overclocking; very similar MoBos only slightly different features, can't really go wrong on either.

You are very wrong. There is a whole thread on this forum dedicated to how bad the 990FXA-UD3 is, and I don't imagine the 970 is any better.

I know the M5A97 only has a 4 pin CPU power connector, as I upgraded from one after my friend told me an 8 pin Power connector is better for overcocking which is what you are planning to do. Also It the M5A99x Evo is a little expensive then wait for a sale on Newegg, I picked mine up for 114$

no the M5A97 has a 8 pin cpu power connector 4+2 powerphase and digi vrm.  the M5A97 LE has indeed only a 4 pin cpu power connector.

The Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 is a totaly diffrent board, this board is hard to get, it has a 6+2 powerphase and digi vrm, same as the M5A99X EVO R2.0  both have 8 pin cpu power connector.

She said that they were not the best quality. maybe read next time. ;).

Also. She said that people had good results with them. She is not wrong. I had my 8150 running at 5GHz with a 970-UD3.

So pffffft.

(it was only 4 cores, but thats by fault of the CPU, not the board, with all cores on, I could get 4.7)

Oh yes, my mistake, forgot to read the box again.

yeah im personaly not a big fan of gigabyte am3+ boards at all, but there are people who have alot of luck with them.

like i said the vrm´s and chokes, are not from the best quality, but hey, maybe thats the reason why they are cheap, and fully feutured. And if somebody has won the silicon lottery with it, then that is offcourse realy great. but i personaly prefer Asus AM3+ boards. because they have better quality power delivery  parts. But still also with an Asus board you can have bad luck ☺ But the main problems i read about with gigabyte am3+ boards, is mostly allways the same, crappy bios, unstable overclock causing by overheating power delivery parts and northbridge chip.
