I want a Win 2019 (and 2022) machine but my ASUS ProArt mobo does not seem to support Win 2019 drivers at all. I can install 2019 on the box but have no nic, video, etc. drivers and it looks looks like a lost cause. Its a shame because the box has 64GB and the AMD 5950x. I will be doing some ETL/Data Warehouse work and want to have a physical 2019 server.
Anyone have 2019 running at home? I don’t really want to try to go rackmount at this time. I think the key is that drivers have to be provided by the vendor (or MS) and it seems that ASUS does not want 2019 on their desktop motherboards.
if I find a NIC that could be used would I eventually find other drivers (video, audio…)?
Anyone have very recent experience with this?

This is supposed to be for Video/Audio/Photo workstation - trying not to hate myself for buying this.
And I think I might get Windows Server 2008 running, but I need 2019
Have you tried installing the Windows 10 or 11 drivers onto the 2019 system? That stuff should be very cross-compatible these days. You should only need the NIC to start and then Windows can find its own drivers.
That is odd, i’m a server 2022 on a real old asrock motherbaord.
What drivers can’t u install ?
What drivers didn’t windows find drivers for in device manager ?
did you try istalling drivers from the vendor of the chip directly.
I don’t get why you want to make a server of this motherboard. What do’s the server needs to do. I’m runnig my on a quadcore 2ghz procesor withouth hypetreathing.
did you try running windows 10 or 11 drivers ?
(why not look at ebay for a cheap 10gbe adapter, and use an other motherboard. And make of this motherboard the workstation it wants to be)
i have 2019 running on an AM4 board that is nearly identical except for the intel I-225 NIC, and the driver for that 1 item seems to be available on the WWW in various forms.
this reminded me, people seem to think that drivers need to come from the brand of the mainboard, or the brand of the PC, etc. not true at all. i can not count the times i have used a Lenovo driver on a HP or a Dell driver or whatever i could find because it was the first one easily available.
That is assuming that the device is obscure enough that you can not just get the driver from the manufacturer. AMD chipset drivers and GPU drivers are available from AMD, do not bother getting that stuff from ASUCK.
how exactly did you install your drivers in 2019? I ran the amd chipset drivers and got this: Unable to install AMD Chipset Drivers / System Configuration is not compatible for RAID drivers or applications installation. / A System Update is required to complete the installation.
right click on one of the Ethernet controllers and go to properties, then click the details tab, under the ‘property’ drop down select ‘hardware IDs’ and you should get this screen.
i highlighted the important bits. these are the hex ID numbers for this exact device. just type the 2 strings into google and it will tell you the device and probably link you too a driver.
do this for ANY device with a yellow exclamation mark and you are golden. like i said earlier, a driver matching the string will work, even if it from Dell, HP, Satan, or even Cisco. occasionally the branded installer will not run but extract with 7zip and manually load the driver if it comes to that. on most things that are common it should be way easier than going full on brute force.
Also a ryzen 9 mayebe google for a lower tdp processor for in your server. those tend to be on 24/7
if you use the compute its worth the price you pay on the end of the year but if its a home lap. do you want to cool that tdp ?
first install the chipset drivers for 2019 use windows 10 drivers and for 2022 use windows 11 drivers
marvel public drivers aq112u closest part al the aqc drivers look the same
if the installers don’t work. just extract the packages and find the inf files to install. should work
remember 2019 → win 10 drivers / 2022 → win 11 driver. (just use asus site)
microsoft uses the same kernel for server and windows . i thought windows 2000 was the last with its own kernel (And it was amazing)
You need to install the AMD chipset drivers to fix most of those unknown devices. You also need the Intel driver package for your Thunderbolt controller.
Just install the drivers manually, it’s not that much of an issue. The regular Windows 10/11 drivers WILL work on the motherboard as long as you point Windows directly to them.
I ended up getting a used Dell 7810 with 128 GB ECC which gives me what I need. Win Server 2019 and SQL Server 2019 went on smoothly and once I gave it the Intel driver I got all 60+ unknown items to update their drivers. Why that many? This machine is a Dual Xenon with 28/56 cores. Since it was less than $ $500 I just went with it.
