Need advice on choosing a CPU cooler

So I've been searching for a new CPU cooler to replace the stock AMD one and I figured I'd go with a hyper 212 evo, but then I saw this be quiet! Pure Rock and I've read some good things about it and it seems pretty good, but is it better than the 212 Evo? The price isn't a factor because those two cost literally the same. I've read that the 212 has a somewhat crappy mounting system and people were saying that the be quiet one is better. So what do you guys think? Any help appreciated, cheers!

CPU - AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE 3,5Ghz waiting to be OC'ed.

not sure about the be quiet one but the cooler master one is quite good and silent when you get some fans to replace the ones that come with it

Be quiet cooler is marginally better, though the stock fan is likely slightly better and more quiet as well.
I'd expect it to be more about the price, if the 212 is the same as the be quiet fan, go for the latter.

if you want really good cooler and for it be quiet i recommend going for closed loop ones, and replace fans with some quiet ones. Difference is big.

Yep, they're the same price here. So you think be quiet! is a better choice?

Well the thing is, entry level AIOs are not better than even a hyper 212 in some cases and the other thing is that I don't want to spend more than the 212 or be quiet! cost.

i would go for the be quiet

Thing single 120mm AIOs are useless imo, and shouldn't really exist :u
AIOs aren't really worth it until you get to twin 120 and up, thick 120mm AIOs are usually more than capable of running all CPUs within their voltage limit, because even if you have good enough cooling, voltage can degrade your chip even if you keep the temps low.

I suggest going for the be quiet thing.

The Hyper 212 EVO has been the standard by which pretty much every aftermarket heatsink, especially entry-level, has been compared to for a while. However, there are a lot of alternative options which are starting to, slowly but surely, surpass it. It's kind of like the Arctic Silver 5 of heatsinks.

That said, I'm a fan of trying new things, and I think that the Cryorig H5, or the Raijintek Themis Evo are great alternatives to look at.

entry level AIO's are only good for GPU cooling.

I've read that those two are good, but they're not available where I live :(

Then go for the Pure Rock. I can't imagine it performing any worse than the Hyper 212 EVO. (If only to be different.)

Honestly, both are good products, so whatever you can get for the cheapest will be the best.

be quiet! Pure Rock would be my second choice. My first would be Noctua NH-D15 because of the performance and the better mounting options. It even gives closed loop water cooling a run for its money so what more can you ask for?
i know that's the cooler i'm going to use for my next build ;-)

Cryorig R1 is just as, if not better than the NH-D15. And cheaper.
I'm ordering one within the next week to replace my stock intel heatsink for my 4790k.

If you guys can find an NH-D15 or R1 for roughly $35 bucks, those would definitely get my vote as well.

Can always hope for a sale I suppose - I was only responding to @sammy.

Just finished looking at sum specs. (don't have the time to go in depth today )
But the cryorig site sure looks the part..

of course this is no conclusion and more research is needed..
but check out these two youtube vids..
At the start both fans preform alike but on higher speeds the Noctua has a lower DB level.

This is the noctua fan.

And the cryorig fan.

It's not all about the fans. If you want it to be as quiet as possible, go noctua (duh).
The cryorig isn't exactly a hurricane though.
I'll be able to tell you how much of a bother the noise of it actually is when I get mine.

The reason I'm going for it is that it's around the same, if not better performance as the NH-D15 and is cheaper.

Getting a bit off topic. PM me if you find further info. Ta.

Thanks for the suggestion but like I said that cooler isn't available where I live :(
