I'm thinking of upgrading my gaming gear and finally decided on the Mionix Naos 7000, which has an optical sensor. This will be my first optical mouse, so I need some advice on the type of surface best suited for it. Does anyone with experience in this matter know of any good hard or cloth surfaces to use it on? I'd be thankful for any useful advice.
I actually have a mionix naos 8200, and i have their aluminium mouse pad, it tracks very well on the aluminuim as expected, it worked fine on my 3 year old cloth mousepad, and it worked well on my corsair mousepad. it even does pretty well just going across my desk, really it doesnt matter unless you are tracking across a reflective surface and or transparent surface. it all depends on the sensor used in the mouse and the quality acurracy of the sensor.
i dont know much about different surfaces but most mice dont really change performance when switching surfaces.
If you go to artscow.com, you can make a mousepad with a completely customised image. The prints are good quality and can be in colour. But the best part is, if you enter the code "REDDITDISCOUNT" on checkout it will reduce the cost of the mousepad to $1 (which includes international shipping).
basically you just want a mouspad and if you want to be finicky, a solid color. No fancy designs. You might see very minor inconsistency when moving across different colors. If you prefer hard plastic or cloth or metal, they should all work fine with an optical mouse. Especially with the 3310 sensor which the Naos 7000 series uses, the most expensive, most modern sensor, made to work well on as many surfaces as possible.
