Does anyone know if there is anyone like Louis Rossman or Steve from TronicsFix in Europe?
All of the electronics repair companies I know of will just replace parts and I need my plantronics headset fixed. I plugged it into a usb-c charger (a firsty party good one) but seems it over charged/heated it and it’s stopped working. If I send it anywhere around here I’ll be told it can’t be fixed (or they will charge me half the price of the headset to replace a board) but I’m certain that just something small broke as there was no blue smoke or smells of burning electronics, if I can just get someone to honestly try to fix the board it will be good for years to come.
Unfortunately I don’t have either the expertise or the equipment that I believe would be needed, honestly I wouldn’t even know where to start to diagnose what’s broken.
Essentially you’ve got nothing to loose: open it carefully, make some photo’s of the insides (gently remove a PCB if you can, but don’t force stuff!) and post them here. By that time, have this thread moved to the Audio/headphones section, better chance of a specialist to look at your problem.
How much did the headset cost in the first place? Unless it’s something like a single capacitor dying then I doubt you’ll be able to find a shop that’ll be cheap enough for it to be worth your time. The reality is time is money and Steve and Louis Rossman don’t run charities.
Also just because it didn’t burst into flames doesn’t mean it’ll necessarily be fixable.
Your best option would be to open it up and see if you can spot any dead capacitors. If you have a multimeter and can test for shorts then you might be able to find the problem and fix it yourself.
Probably around 300 for a new headset. I had no multimeter or any other equipment that I’d need. I’ve seen enough repair videos to know I’d just break it worse.
Plus I’m not looking for charity, I’m looking to pay someone to fix it and I’ll pay, I just want it done right.
Did I phrase it that way in my post yo give the impression that I was looking for someone to fix it for free?
Thank you, I’ll give him a shout.
And duty and cat don’t apply for any products being shipped for repair,… Although I may have to pay vat on the repair costs possibly, I’ll need to look into that.
I wasn’t saying you were looking for charity, just that Louis Rossman or Steve don’t work for free and would likely charge you a pretty penny for the repairs as well even if you didn’t have to worry about shipping. Especially Louis based on what he’s said about the cost of rent in NYC and how much that would affect his hourly rate.
