Just about every day as I return home from classes or the gym my computer is left running usually downloading something and it seems I always return to a black screen. The computer is still running, I'm guessing some program caused Windows 8.1 to crash/freeze.
I'm wondering if there is a utility to analyze these freezes and crashes after I reboot my PC. I know Microsoft has a utility for this but I figured I'd reach to the Tek community for suggestions.

I have had this happen to me before your computer isn't crashing so there is no crash report to analyze. What your computer is doing is going to sleep and not being able to wake back up (or display is turning off and can't turn back on). What you can do is change your power settings so that nothing turns off ever except the display if you prefer.
Alright I set it so the display never sleeps, we'll see if that fixes it. Thanks
In case it wasn't a problem with power settings, you might want to look at the standard windows event viewer, it should have some info if the computer has run into one issue or another
