Need a PC game with a good storyline

The Oddworld series!! especially the first two, Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus, they're great [: platformer/puzzle type, i think something like 16 years old now?? they're available on steam if you have that, it's about this guy called Abe who's a slave for meat factory, after discovering the slaves would soon be used as meat he set out on a quest to free his people, long time favorite series [:

Deadfine mentioned Telltale's walking dead and I second this, it made me feel feels i never felt before.

MadRussian mentioned Bastion and I never really had a proper go at it but a friend of mine was very into it and I hold his opinion on games in fairly high regard so that might be worth checking out too!

I have to agree with most of the games listed and i'll repeat Indigo prophecy since it doesn't have much publicity and people won't give it a second look, it's quite old though. Prince of Persia Sands of Time and Metal Gear Solid 1 both are childhood games that I think have a good story but I may be a bit bias. Some newer games:

  • Assassin's Creed series (The first one sucked and was repetitive but the next three do make up for it)

  • Mass Effect series (Great except for them cocking up the end)

  • Mafia 2 and Bully (For some sandbox story games)

Thought I'd post some which weren't already listed that my strike your interest.

Bioshock infnet?? idk i enjoyed that one that or tomb raider or mabey just cause 2

Infinite*

star wars the old republic I kept making alts just to go through the story lines.

I would go ahead and say Skyrim, because if the main story doesn't grab you, then chances are the Faction war (Stormcloak vs imperial), or one of the other various side questlines, or the DLC, or the 19384750 miscellaneous quests, or the daedric quests will in fact tickle your fancy.

The game with the best storyline I ever played was the Metal Gear Solid series.

The game story , writen by Hideo Kojima, is all fucked up but really awesome!!!!!!

I'm glad someone mentioned Dragon Age: Origins - for what it's worth it is my favourite story of any game I've played. And I've played it A LOT. It's the only game I've felt compelled to complete multiple times.

The Mass Effect trilogy is also a must play for story oriented gamers.

While it is a little older, I'd also like to recommend Neverwinter Nights 2 (and expansions). I played this when it was new and loved it. I recently re-bought the complete edition of it on sale from GOG and am currently re-playing it. I'm loving every damned minute - it has aged very well.

Lastly, one game that I feel gets over looked with regard to story, is the original Dawn of War 2 (the expansions weren't great). It also manages to blend RTS and RPG better than anything else I've played.

This game isnt for everybody but if you are looking for a cheaper game The Testament of Sherlock Holmes was a good 30 hour play through for me.  Ive never read the books but the story was interesting and puzzles were challenging.

I don't know very many Native PC games but the Metal Gear series is absolutly my favorite, keep in mind I'm a nintendo fanboy and hardcore love zelda and metroid, but metal gear tops it
