Need a new wireless adapter for gaming PC?

Hello, I recently scrapped an old hp that had some nice parts and bought some new ones as well and built a computer. The hp had a wireless adapter inside, which was fine for me. Unfortunately it is PCI-E mini and my new mobo has no slots for it .My room is upstairs over 100 feet from my router. My question is wether to get a USB or PCI-E wireless adapter, and which one to get specifically. Here is the old card.

As long as it is the equivalent to this or better I don't really care for connection. Although if there is something I could get that would have a great connection please tell me. I would like to spend no more than 40 dollars. Any help would be appreciated. :D

Side note: I saw someone recommend this  http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007GMPZ0A/ref=redir_mdp_mobile

I wasn't sure if it is optimal for my needs, but what do you guys think?

i run that same network card and I love it.  Has all the features I need and it runs great.  Would recommend it to just about anybody.

How far away are you from your router?

I have a 4800 myself and distance does become a greater factor when using the 5.0 ghz band. I am 75 to 100 feet away with 4 walls between router and the computer. Even at half bars the 5.0 ghz band still streams video and games well. First you should check your router and see whats its specs are and match your adapter to the router specs.

I have an Intel 7260 ac version, its absolutely fantastic

Why not get something like this

Haven't got any background history on it so i don't know how it performs but it should be as fast as an Ethernet if i am not mistaken.

The only problem with these is they aren't really meant for say, "newer homes" If you have more than one power panel then it more than likely can't cross over. Like my downstairs is on one panel and the upstairs is on another, those are two separate power sources.

Also say you have one plugged in and then someone plugs one in on the outside of your house, now they have access to your internet and more.

But honestly I'm not that paranoid so I'd still give it a try lol.

This is what I use, works great:

Good shout in that case it probably wouldn't work with two panels.

However im not sure on the 'stranger plugging it in outside' because he would have to know if the household has one first.

However they are good points that you made

Yeah I wish I could test one out, they do really look like they could be really great, and easier than running cable.

Yeah, you'd have to be pretty paranoid to worry about that haha.

Thanks

No problem i saw them and they looked good might try one soon.

If you do, defiantly post back, I wanna know how it works for you!

ok i will mate :)

I am about to order this right now, what do you guys think? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704165

Depends on your electrical wiring in your house.

If the powerline has to go through a circuit breaker, a decent amount of signal will die.  If it's too far, signal will also be reduced/no longer exist.

mmm, didnt know about the circuit breaker thing. Makes sense

looks good but what noob said thare are actually LOTS of things to consider when buying one of these. Hmm

1) whats your router?? dose it have antennas (can you upgrade them?) - I have a few friends with large houses and when normal cheap stuff would only work well from 2 room we just switched out the antennas we got to 4-6 rooms away. (given there is no brick-walls in the way)

2) rosewill has some really nice CHEAP duel antenna adapters ($20-40 dollar range) they work very well, I use it when traveling. I also have a smaller usb wifi with no antenna and not so good.

3) if you choose the power plug know that your network may go beyond your house
