Need a new Wireless Adapter/fix current one?

I've been having a problem with my current wireless adapter (Netgear WNDA3100v2 USB adapter) on and off for about a month and a half now where the drivers sometimes just stop working. It doesn't *seem* like a hardware issue but could very well be.

Basically, it will sometimes slowly degrade in connection speed, or sometimes just drop completely, and the only way to get it to restart is to reboot the drivers. Usually I'm able to get it working again by right-clicking the network icon (Win 7) and choosing troubleshoot, which resets the drivers (or so it tells me), but sometimes I have to unplug and replug the device. If windows doesn't do the "usb unplugged" sound, I have to reboot my computer to get it back up. In most cases (all but today) the stick is warm to the touch when this happens, but not hot.

This has been happening on the latest drivers from the Netgear website. I just tried downgrading the drivers to an earlier version to see if that helps, and if it does I won't need the upgrade.

Either way, it has put me in the market for a new Wireless Adapter, and decided to look here to see if anyone had any suggestions. If I determine that this wireless adapter is just bad, I want to get a new one coming ASAP in case it decides to completely give up. This wireless adapter was fairly pricy, but I'd rather this new one wasn't. I don't care if it is an internal PCI(e) adapter, or a USB adapter; I have slots for either. I also have USB 3.0 ports, if that's a factor.

And before it's mentioned: no, Ethernet is not an option.

Don't use wireless. it's dumb. Get a real setup.

How is the connection in a linux environment?

Worst case decent usb wireless devices are cheap - TP link offer some good gear for bugger all ( <$20)

As mentioned in my original post, I can't. If I could, I would. However, my router is downstairs and my computer is upstairs. Even if I could get an Ethernet connection up here, I would also have to somehow get it into the next room for other computers.

If you can't use Ethernet then you shouldn't be online.
