Hey everyone. I'm going to be upgrading my rig real soon but I'm stuck on what new MOBO to pick out. As of now, I'm deiciding betwen the Z87 Extreme4 which I can get for $90 @ Microcenter or the ASUS Z87-PRO for $165 @ Newegg. I've heard some bad reviews of the Z87 Extreme and that it's more of a MOBO that's good for the price.

I have never OC'd before but I plan too get into it once I upgrade my rig. Should I go with the ASUS or ASRock?

are you planning any heafty overclocking? cause other than that, i see no reason to spend an extra $70 for the asus. i myself am using a z87-A from asus, but i got it at Fry's for $90, and my 4670k runs just fine @4.5 with an H100.

Personally, I'd buy the Asus. When it comes to motherboards, it seems like consistently lead the pack. I really like some of their features, such as Fan Xpert, BIOS Flashback, etc. I'd buy it just based on previous experience with the company and the reputation of their customer support (which is positive).

That being said, I've never used/owned an ASRock MB. They both have a lot of reviews on Newegg, and they both have four stars, so take that into consideration for whatever it is worth.

i would personaly take a look at the Msi Z87-G45 gaming, this board seems like a very popular board, and overclocks fine. ☺

All Asrock boards I have used so far have been fine if not a little picky on some of the memory you can use on them. Asus is better quality that goes with out saying. But I also like the MSI G45 and I also used on a mATX a MSI z87M-Gaming board. And really its just as good as the asus with out some extra stuff but everything you need.

i'd say the asrock is out classed by the other components. if your going all the way with video, ram and cpu why not pony up the 65 for the asus. it probably does not matter which one you use, but if it were me and i was getting all the other things on the list, i would go with the asus board.

Thanks guys. I'm deciding between the ASUS and the MSI G45
