Need a case with sufficient airflow

I’m looking to find a good case for this build: http s://pcpartpicker.com/ list/rCKZFZ

The problem I seem to keep running into is that the second GPU in the lower PCIe slot will end up pressed against the wall (in a 4u rackmount case) or against the PSU (in a regular tower case). This, unsurprisingly, has bad effects on the cooling for that GPU. Should’ve gotten a blower. Alas.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a case that will accommodate this build? I already have all the parts listed. I’d absolutely prefer a rackmount case (and there isn’t a practical upper limit to size, my rack has plenty of room) but I won’t say no to a good tower. Aesthetics and noise are definitely secondary, this will live in my basement and run headless.

Alas, I couldn’t post links for reasons that I don’t quite understand (especially given that the rules for this subforum suggest posting pcpartpicker links), but if you remove the spaces it should work.

I want to say it’s due to your account age. You may also need to read the rules page as well.

Now for case with that build. Honestly would come down to money and your preference in looks.

Fractal North or the North XL is probably one of the best cases you can buy right now: Amazon.com: Fractal Design North - Genuine Walnut Wood Front - Mesh Side Panels - Two 140mm Aspect PWM Fans Included - Type C USB - ATX Airflow Mid Tower PC Gaming Case,Charcoal Black

Another good option is Antec Flux: https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811129320?nrtv_cid=8wd2wqhxewcyh&utm_source=howl-GamersNexus%20LLC&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=afc-howl-GamersNexus%20LLC-8wd2wqhxewcyh

If want to save money the LIAN LI LANCOOL 207 is a solid budget option: https://www.newegg.com/p/2AM-000Z-000D6?nrtv_cid=8u5wh21l01c0c&utm_source=howl-GamersNexus%20LLC&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=afc-howl-GamersNexus%20LLC-8u5wh21l01c0c

Edit: Also your link has two spaces in it. Here is the working link for anyone else: Part List - AMD Ryzen 9 9900X, GeForce RTX 3070, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER - PCPartPicker

Fractal Torrent can bring the airflow, and the PSU is up top so on the opposite end of the GPU.

Beats me on the reasoning. I even got the little cheevo about reading the rules, so probably account age.

The Fractal North is beautiful but alas, the GPU would be fan-to-fan with the PSU, which is what I’m trying to avoid. Flux seems to be similar. The LANCOOL looks like it might be what I need, but looking at the Fractal Torrent with the PSU on top is probably what I want!

Ironically I have that rackmount chassis, and that’s the one I’d originally ordered for this build. It absolutely does not work for a dual-GPU setup with the slots I’ve got on my motherboard. I’ll have to repurpose it for something else.

Thank you!

I have a supermicro board with 6 slots in mine with the 7th used for persistent memory battery mount, guess your top slot is offset from the io shield?

Or not, as the Torrents’ feet are fairly short, the bottom mesh is kinda restrictive, the bottom punching runs pretty high load noise, the PSU intakes warm air from behind the CPU cooler, and the unventilated tops create a hotspot that elevates PSU temperatures. The topside hotspot also affects the 3.5 mount (Torrent Compact) or the 3.5 mounts are unventilated (Torrent). Good basic idea, would have benefitted from greater attention to detail in the execution.

Lancool 207 or Lancool III would be my desktop case defaults here if not risering out one of the dGPUs. Lancool II and Flux Pro both have some clearance over the PSU but the arrangements aren’t as effective as the 207’s moving the PSU to the other end or the III’s double sided intake plus eighth PCIe slot of clearance.

Actually, the lower GPU’d be blocked by the unperforated shroud unless you cut it out. At least one of Fractal’s design teams seems not understand how airflow works. With the Lancool II and III and Flux Pro the shroud plates can be removed.

Also, on the Norths I’ve built I haven’t been able to tell if the wood is real (as Fractal claims) or a good fake. If it’s actually real the finish Fractal uses is plasticky enough it might as well be fake.

It would not unless you were to aim the PSU up lol

I can also get the North XL: North XL — Fractal Design

Edit: Nvm think you mean it will sit against the bottom of the case. Which is fair reason to avoid it.

It’s a solid choice

I also forgot to add a good rackmount option. Which I apologize for. I’ve used sliger and have been very impressed with their build quality. https://www.sliger.com/

They have multiple 4U options and different depths. I would heavily recommend reading their compatibility documentation for your build.
