Need a $200 dollar shave

Not at the barber, but need to shave about $200 off this build.

where should I cut corners, but still have the maximum gaming experience?

thanks guys!

Maybe?

Edit: Do you really need the Blu-ray?

I changed the processor down to a FX6300 to save some money, switched the video card to a 7950 because it performs about the same maybe a little bit better than the 660ti.

Also @ nregner the M5A97 LE is not a very good choice of a board...

8320 + 7950 + 99fx motherboard

Swapped out the operating system.

Swapped out the blur ray, it can be added later.

Took out the SSD, it can be added later.

Gave you a 7950, which is incredibly more powerful than the 660ti.

I swapped the monitor for an IPS panel, which is higher quality. You can choose the other, slightly larger panel, if you wish.

You needed a better motherboard with a better power delivery.

Better quality PSU. More than enough power for any given high-end graphics card. It was slightly cheaper too.

200R is a really nice case for the money.

This is actually pretty high-end. Overclock the 8320, and it will be just as good as the 8350. I would recommend a slightly beefier cooler, in the $50 range.

If you need the blu ray:

I know, I tried to get something in there for the money.

do you really need a monitor optical drive and an os?

I want a blu ray to hook up to the tv, more for my wife than me.  I'm getting out of the console business and into the pc realm but still want something to offer the 'living room' experience,

what about the rest of my question...

Hmmm...  Not sure about an os.  Suggestions?  most games need ms7 or 8 I believe.  You surely wouldn't suggest pirated copies, because that would be terribly illegal and is so wrong.  I surely wouldn't want to deny Microsoft any of their hard earned cash

thx for the suggestions!  do you things going to 6 core would hurt my chances of running many next gen games?

Looks great.  Thanks

If you really need the blu-ray, your best option is to leave out the SSD and go with something like this.

It has the 8 core and is Berserker's build with the blu-ray added and a little bit cheaper but still great ram.

well what about the monitor situation? size resolution etc? what do you need/want.

and will you be overclocking the CPU? Also important so we know how much money should be invested in a cooler.

for an os, Linux is free, but I've heard windows is better for gaming, and also windows 8 can never go without start is back. unfortunately I can't say anything about linux because I don't have the hard drive space for it.

what do I want with a monitor?  I'll be sitting at a desk, pretty close.  having been a console junkie for years, I'm not quite sure what I need for a good gaming experience for around $150.

concerning over clocking, I just learned what that meant like maybe two days ago.  I like the idea if optimizing my system, but as I'm a noob, I may want to avoid this at first.  Also, I'm coming from the 360 so my standards graphically are pretty low (ha!).  But I do want to be able to run net gen games at decent settings.

thanks

Yeah dont listen to people that say to get linux or any other form of OS. For gaming linux dosent have nearly as many games as windows does and any other OS is going to be even worse.

Get windows 8 since its basically the same price as 7 and has better performance, just make sure to get the 64 bit version

here we go!

as far as a monitor is concerned i am still a little confused as to whether or not you want one "what do i want with a monitor" sounded kind of dismissive and it would compromise the performance, which i didn't want to do. it would also compromise the blue theme which i DEFINITELY didn't want to happen. But anyways on with it.

i chopped off $40 to get an 8320, its basically the same except for the lower stock speed. and i got the motherboard and CPU cooler to leave room for future overclocking. the ram is just good ram with a low cas. i got the graphics card because its powerful and blue. got the case for its sleek sexiness and a window to show off all your blueness. a blu ray player, not writer. and a seasonic power supply.

This is great!

what I meant about the monitor was that, being a noob to all this computer stuff, I don't know what's important when looking for a monitor.  If I had $150 to spend on a monitor, what should I be looking forl!

love the blue theme.  May have to cut back on the awesome graphics card you put in there to make room for the monitor.

appreciate the help!

this build is $1029 so if you want to bring it closer to $1000 just get the asus m5a97 r2.0

1. eXtreme power supplies are crap.  Never buy.  Please.  AT LEAST 80+.  My CM eXtreme PSU was literally a heater in my computer.  Returned it for an XFX 550PRO personally.
