A NAS in its purest form is just network attached storage, a location to store/backup your files.Its primary purpose is just that and not for gaming.
If you are looking into building a rig that can act as a network share and still be used as a desktop PC, you may want to consider using Linux w/samba. This way you could make a few shares for file storage and you could also use the computer for web browsing/light gaming.
