Hi everyone, building my own NAS soon. I need your opinions!
Xeon 1230v3
Supermicro x10sat
Fractal Design R4
hyper 212 evo
Cooler Master V650
Super Micro Samsung 8gb drr3 1200mhz Unbuffered ECC MEM-DR380L-SL02-E x2 (or Kingston ValueRAM KVR16E11/8, not on the support list but in a review they used this ram and it's 20 euro cheaper per dim)
2x3tb WD RED
I'm gonna use freenas, but a review on newegg said that linux didn't work with the motherboard. The lan port should be supported so i don't see why it wouldn't work with linux.
Not familiar with that particular mobo, but everything else looks very solid... might look into a different PSU, I always recommend Corsair (TX+), XFX, and Seasonic... EVGA and Enermax make good PSUs... and I hear the Rosewill HIVE is a good option as well... but that's more of a stick with what you KNOW is solid recommendation...
Beware of some of the comments on newegg anyhow... you'll see "tech experience: 5 eggs" next to very stupid comments as to why they gave something a 1 egg rating... such as "I bent the pins on the cpu socket and newegg won't return it" <--- obviously the board's fault
I don't see why it wouldn't run FreeNAS either, but I can't guarantee the guy wasn't correct...
Oh thanx! I chose the cooler master psu for the efficiency on low wattage and it's not that expensive.
I looked for mature reviews after the post and I found a 10 page article and they were happy about it.
