I have been having this problem lately. When I just click shutdown on my PC, the fans and lights stay on while only the monitor shuts down. But when I click reset it shuts down for real.
have you tried switching the power and reset switch. sounds like power is on the reset. which explains why when the power button is pressed it restarts
Not 100% sure. As I said it started a couple of months ago, so can't quite remember. But resetting my BIOS to default settings should revert it anyways right?
Do you think I should try to revert to an older bios? I have a sneaking suspicion that it's a problem with my PSU. I have to disable power surge protection in my bios to run for more than a minute or two, granted it might just be a shitty power surge protection.
Lol yeah, you are probably right. The thing is I don't have money for that right now, so I have to make do with what I have. That's also why I have not tried to troubleshoot by trying another motherboard/PSU. Since I have an RM850, I doubt it's that dangerous.
A friend of mine was having the same issue with Ubuntu a couple of years ago. Is actually a bug with the kernel and I unfortunately don't remember how to solve this problem. But I'm sure that with a little research on Google you'll find the solution easly. So keep calm and don't do BIOS swap or return any hardware.
Interesting. Which version of Windows are you running? I know you said you are using Ubuntu as well. The other question I have is Ubuntu and Windows on the same Drive? The reason I ask is my desktop I have noticed for a bit of time myself has been staying on as well. Exactly like what you are talking about. I am running Windows 10 Pro. I wonder if you try booting just to Ubuntu installed on a seperate drive would the problem exist? Have you been able to replicate the issue on another machine? What is your hardware configuration currently?
