My new rig

I decided to buy this as a bare-bones because it was on clearance for $712

Not the latest HW but for the money I think reasonable enough, really the specs are adequate for my not-so-particular needs. Yes IK turbo nerds hate ibuypower but setting that aside what you nerds think, did I fuck up or no? If you try to part all that together new it cost more so I think I do okay.

It has standard PC components from what I can tell and that is a good thing. If the price for it was comparable to diy pc then why not.

sure but starting fresh on last gen is not often a wise choice and that’s not very low amount of money ehhh

That is a pretty good value though with both AM5 and LGA1700 motherboards now getting affordable, that PC will last only around 2-3 years.

Here is a slightly more expensive budget build based on a 12700k and 6700 XT - this is what I would recommend for most 1440p or 1080p gamers on a budget:

PCPartPicker Part List

Type Item Price
CPU Intel Core i7-12700K $275.00
CPU Cooler Scythe Kotetsu Mark 3 $29.99
Motherboard ASRock Z690 Extreme ATX $149.99
Memory Mushkin Enhanced Redline Stiletto 2x32 GB DDR4-3600 CL18 $97.99
Storage TEAMGROUP MP34 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 $69.98
Video Card Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 6700 XT $339.99
Case BitFenix Nova Mesh SE $64.90
Power Supply Cooler Master MWE Gold 850 - V2 $99.99
Total $1127.83

As a reference, here is the street price for your sale deal DIY:

PCPartPicker Part List

Type Item Price
CPU AMD Ryzen 7 5700X $191.54
Motherboard Gigabyte B550M AORUS ELITE $109.99
Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8 GB DDR4-3200 CL16 $39.99
Storage TEAMGROUP MP34 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 $39.99
Video Card Zotac GAMING Twin Edge OC GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR $349.99
Case BitFenix Nova Mesh SE $64.90
Power Supply Cooler Master MWE Gold 850 - V2 $99.99
Total $896.39

What changed, well, $85 from CPU, $40 from MoBo, $60 from memory and $30 from drive. And $30 from cooler since 5700X use stock. That is $250 in savings, now is it worth it, for memory no, for SSD HELL no, for the rest, well, kind of.

Was your build a deal, no, it was a steal especially if it is a B550 board. I would spend the extra $100 to double RAM and storage directly, but otherwise congrats on an excellent 1080p that is, unfortunately, equipped with too little VRAM to be a great system in a year or two. So, buy a 16+ GB card in 18 months and that thing will be awesome :slightly_smiling_face:

Plenty of easy upgrades, on the SSD front [2x m.2] and RAM
Pending on what mainboard offered, can entertain sticking in a 5800x3d, for final oohrah

For $712 you could have done a lot worse. Besides, you can always upgrade one part at a time while you continue to enjoy your PC. :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh shit guess what everybody I went back to the walmart today and they now have um marked down to $279 so yeah I took back the $712 one and bought it again for much cheaper.

Really I had to talk myself into it at $712 and part of me regretted it but at $279 I feel like that’s a pretty good deal. I think I might sell the 3060 I don’t need for more than that then free computer.

Wally’s World gave you a full refund? Crazy

yeah they did, you can’t just take back the new one because they are serialized and they do scan it at return so naturally I didn’t just swap the stickers on the boxes of the identical products and keep the one I already had setup because that technically would not be the procedure that’s allowed and I would never break the rules even if its better for everyone…

So like… You re-bought a return? :sunglasses:

Funny you should say that actually I went back today on my lunch break and bought the brand new unopened one that I returned yesterday after swapping the serial numbers. So now I have two for less than I payed originally. I am confident I can sell this one for a profit but I am considering using it for a different project I had in mind.

No harm done. They moved twice as much stock and you got two for the price of one. All’s well that ends well. Plus the price is right! Was already a good deal at the original price you paid.
