I am building a gaming pc in march, and I wanted to get a head start about knowing which parts to get and stuff. I have come up with a build that is $714, but when you go to Microcenter, the 2500k is $60 cheaper, and you get $40 off a motherboard as well. So that basically takes $100 off.
My budget needs to stay under $620. I can not go higher than that, just remember, keep the 2500k. And also, you can build a build (lol) at around $720, and I will get almost a hundred dollars off at microcenter too. So yeah.
Your build is pretty solid. I wouldn't change much. Your going to be able to overclock you 2500k like crazy and your xfx card has a lifetime warranty, the 7850 is deffinitley the best bang for your buck. Really solid motherboard and the Hyper212 Evo is soooo good for the money. Mushkin RAM is great, and its hard to beat for that price. Well chosen.
Really solid build didn't even skimp on the power supply aha! The only thing I'd change is I would get the 2GB version on the 7850 heres one by XFX too http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150641 things might go on sale too by the time you buy your parts so keep that in mind but all round nice build!
Tropic may i interest you in a AMD build? I am sure i can give you quite a large amount more graphical horsepower for your money with say a FX6300 then the 2500k.
May i recomend you a better power supply? The CX series is great but for the price you pay you can get something quite a bit proper like this: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1550sxxb9 44 amp 12v rail, 5 year warranty and it is cheaper then your CX600.
The 2500k is bad ass but for gaming we can give you more gaming performance with a AMD processor and a much more powerful for the same amount of money.
I don't know. My dad really wants me to stick to intel, but he knows nothing lol. It would have to be pretty good reasoning. I am an Intel fanboy, so it would be tough. I have heard that AMD isn't good quality? Am i wrong?
Youre not wrong and youre not right, AMD has its place just like intel. Intel makes monster processors, heck my i3 competes directly with my 6 core AMD processor. In the budget sector of pc builds though, you can get more for your mney with a AMD build. For example, a FX6300 is $130 processor we can use the difference in that alone to bump you up from a 7850 to possibly a 7950 which would boost your performance big time in gaming. Heck we can even give you a FX8320 and with the saved money boost you up to a 7870 and still get better gaming experience for the same cash amount.
Whatever you chose is a great deal, the 2500k+7850 is a solid system and so is FX6300+7950/7870. Please reconsider the power supply even if you leave everything else the same, i have a CX 430 and the first two squeeled like stuck pigs. This one does as well, i would never recomend it to anyone especially for the price they are asking.
John, you seemed to have topped me :D If you can come up with a $600 build with the six core, I will think about it. You explained it perfectly, and you have me wondering which is which. If you think this will be better, how long will it last me? And if I get money eventually, I can just put a different motherboard and cpu in there right?
Thanks John, and I'll let you choose the Power Supply :D
The 7870 will be quite an improvement in gaming over the 7850, the FX6300 is also properly good. It is about $7 over your current build, it was difficult getting it to the $600 mark with the case lol. Iam sure someone will recomend you a much better motherboard thats probably cheaper, and find other bits to save money on as well.
Without the case in the budget and a $650 budget, you can get a FX6300 with a 7950 which would be just insane for gaming.
pretty good attempt john. so if i raised my budget $50 dollars, i could get the 7950? which is a beast you say right? I am not playing really demanding games though. i just want to run blops2 at around 60 fps maxed out. this build with the 7850 should do it right? and i dont think i can raise that much, i dont have any extra money. thanks for the response.
THe 7850 definitely should do Black Ops 2 at 60fps, after looking at a few youtube videos of them at 1080 on ultra with 7850's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVjv3btkh0Y
Your system will definitely do the job, it is all about what you want and what you like. I can not stress that power suppy bit enough though, otherwise just get the 2500k/7850 and she will game well ;)
so just go back to my build that i had originally? okay then! thanks john, i appreciate your help, and i will make sure to change the psu. also, i am planning on recording with fraps or something, how much fps will i get with that? thanks!
With fraps on you will probably not hold 60fps on ultra settings, you will probably have to drop the settings a bit. The guy was using fraps and getting 40-60fps on ultra.
pkay cool. and ultra isnt really that big of a deal for me, it would be just cool to be able to play at that rate! so like i said, go back to the original build? how far can i overclock the 2500k?
Since your father told you to stick to intel and you are a intel fanboy or so you have said, intel it is! I rather you go with the build that YOU like, we could change the whole thing but then it wouldn't be your parts list anymore.
For OC, i would say with a fairly budget heatsink you can manage low to mid 4ghz territory, so 4.0-4.5 at least. You will need a heatsink to do that as the stocker would limit you a good bit, 212 EVO is a popular choice and sometimes you can catch it for $25.
Okay! Intel it is! I am excited, this is my first build and im pretty sure it will run well. My dad doesnt know anything about computers. all he knows is that his macbook pro i5 dual core runs pretty good, and he knows intel a bit. so yeah, ill stick with that. im pretty sure ill try amd later on!
john, i wanted to thank you for your help. i appreciate your time, and im glad you are not forcing me to choose which parts like alot of people on here. if you want, i could use some help with the build. if there is any way we could get a better computer running for this budget, that would be great! thanks john!
We can drop a few things like ram speed and motherboard to a cheaper one, small things like that but it wouldn't amount to large savings. One of the easiest drops would be the 212 EVO, you can use the stock cooler and stock clocks(which is plenty for black ops) until you could afford a 212 EVO at a later date.We can also change the hard drive to a seagate but i have really goood experiences with WD so i won't for that reason.
For your build, i would change the PSU to the XFX 550 and drop the cooler, thats over $30 saved with zero performance loss. You can always buy the 212 EVO later, heck by then you will probably be able to afford a even better cooler.
AMD Processor and 7950 = Way better gaming performance. By doing i5 and 7850 you're just depriving yourself of a better gaming rig, so it's your loss I suppose. It's also your money though so it's not my say what you do with it. We're here to help you just remember that. If you aren't open to suggestions don't ask about it.
