My new computer build...looking for help

So my friend is gonna help me with the actual building process of the computer, but this is my first non prebuilt computer, anyway rambling over.

This computer will be for Twitch streaming, recording and editing videos and of course playing games,I want solid performance from all three of these,I don't want to spend more than 3.5k and the current build I have is 3k.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2YZGN thats the parts list I currently have.

Anyway some feedback is very much so welcome.

Thanks,

Andrew H.

So, I've made a few changes:

  • RAM - I personally think you'll never need more than 32GB of RAM, so to reduce costs, I would start off with a 16GB kit (4x4GB) - you have 8 slots total, and no clearance to worry about, so you could upgrade to 32GB down the road utilizing all 8 slots. However, it you do some serious editing or, for whatever other reason, you want the option to get 64GB of RAM, I opted for a 4x 8GB Mushkin kit. It runs slower, but still above average, lower latency helps in games and streaming, has a voltage within spec and still opens that upgrade path. Also much cheaper.
  • SSD - The 840 Pro is faster, and cheaper. I'd advise getting a 256GB version, but if you really don't have that many programs you need start up quickly, 128GB is fine.
  • Storage Drive - For the love your data: RAID! The 3TB Barracuda should be faster, much cheaper, and, in RAID 1, more reliable (and even faster reads).
  • PSU - It's overkill. I'd opt for something 850-1000 if you plan on SLI in the future (depending on your degree of OCing), or ~650w if you don't. I assumed you wanted the upgrade path, so I opted the EVGA 1000w SuperNova - still has the platinum cert, will power SLI OC and CPU OC with probably a bit of room to spare; you know, in case you wanted to max your RAM and expand your RAID to something like 5 drive array... just saying 1000w is A LOT of power. 1200+ is overkill. Just an FYI, your PSU's efficiency will tank below 20% utilization. As is, your system idle will likely utilize 15% of the PSU. If you aren't worried about upgrade paths, I'd wager 700w would be the sweet spot. Idle power consumption would be just a hair above 20%, which means the PSU will still be very efficient (you'll actually be pulling less power from the wall compared to a 1200w PSU), while allowing headroom for extreme overclocking on both CPU and GPU.

So first off thank you for the HDD choices,I wasnt 100% sure what to get for them,I'm kinda new to this whole building computers thing.

As for price as long as it isn't over 3,500 its well within my budget so saying that what would you change?

All the help is MUCH appreciated :)

Last one,for Full ATX cases, what would you recommend?

Well, even if budget allows, I hate the notion of wasting money. You can go for faster RAM, it might help with editing a bit (but usually at the cost of latency, voltage, and price), but I'd stick to RAM below 1.55v, which was the primary reason for my selection of the Mushkin kit. As for full-tower ATX cases, I don't really keep up with the factor, and I have a rather minimalistic, but picky, taste in aesthetics. That said, I dig the NZXT Source 530. I think it has some nifty features (the integrated fan hub with many fan bays stands out), an attractive price, especially for form factor, and I love the design. A close second is Fractal Define XL R2. A bit too simple for me (the mid-tower version looks a lot better to me), but also has a lot of features, most notably sound dampening, and lots of it. There are many good cases out there, but I hate recommending cases because there are a lot of options and it's very subjective.

One little thing to point out: you may be short a SATA cable or two. It appears the motherboard comes with 2, but the build has 4 SATA devices.

Here is an updated list

  • RAM - Patriot Viper 32GB kit - 2133, acceptable voltage, price isn't bad
  • CASE - Fractal Define XL R2
  • COOLER - Swapped for Corsair H110 to make use of extra room the Full Tower ATX case has
