My New Build - Need Opinions/help?

So after years of building computers for friends/family, its my turn: and I want to go higher end.

I do some gaming, Starcraft 2, LOL, anything from Ubisoft (far cry/assassins creed/splinter cell/ghost recon), anything Valve (Portal/TF2/CS). I also do Linux, a lot.

Case:

-Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 Black USB3.0 Mid ATX Case

CPU/Processor:

-Intel i7 3820k (LGA2012)

-I think its the best value, great reviews, can overclock and my water cooling system should be more than enough.

Motherboard*

- MSI Big Bang-xpower

OR

ASUS Rampage IV Extreme

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131802

-both ~$430, if anyone could recommend one or something else with 8 ram slots/ LGA2012 with good reviews in $400-$600 range

RAM

Going to start off with 4x8GB, upgrade as required, 2400 speed, was thinking G.Skill Ripjaw Z?

Graphics card*

-Need good Linux Support, I keep hearing Radeon is better, then I hear Nividia is better. Any thoughts? I am thinking higher end, without breaking the bank: like GTX680 or HD7970

Storage

I have plenty of HD's for storage, and a 120GB HD that I will install windows/programs on, will probably pick up a Kingston HyperX 480GB for games and larger programs.

Then some smaller stuff like fans (have some/buy some),cheap DVD drive (mine recently died), I already have 2 good monitors, keyboard (Steelseries 6gv2) and general peripherals (xbox controller)

Any recomendations/Help?

I would get a velociraptor with a 120gb ssd boot. I the velociraptor is 5 seconds slower loading up games, but has much better storage capacity, and gives the same fos in games as the ssd, Imo a 120gb boot 1tb velociraptor would be my choice. I would get 16gb 2133 and find a read good reviewed pair and OC it to 2400, not worth buying it stock that speed, and 32gb is overkill unless you go 64 and put your os in it. I would cut down your ram to 16gb, get a velociraptor/ssd combo, and use the money saved to get another 7970 or 680, or even 7950 crossfire (best price to preformance setup), or 670sli. My opinion, its your build though.

In my opinion I don't think you need a $400-$600 motherboard.

This intel one does the job and saves you money so you can go all out with 64gb of ram!

I like Crimson's idea about the hard drives.

partpicker didn't have the 3820k only the 3820 but you can get the idea..

You can fill in the rest since you already have liquid cooling and hard drives and stuff, but this seems like a logical option:

For that kind of cash you should go for Intel Core i7-3930K

as for the gpu Linus Torvalds sentence says it all

Well first of all both motherboards the Msi Big Bang and the Asus rampage Extreme Dont gonne fit in a Mid tower ATX case!  cause those boards are XL atx and E-ATX you need a full tower Big tower case. for those boards!

i prefur the Msi Big Bang ☺
