My laptop slowed the fuck down. I just want some help speeding it back up so I can game again

I am running an HP pavilion with windows vista. This thing going on 4 years old. I honestly don't know what I did to it but earlier this year the speed dropped to the point where I couldn't steam a vid off of hulu. I do torrent, just anime. I haven't downloaded any programs in the past year. Can some one help me out?

defrag hard drive with defraggler, then add more ram

run ccleaner to clean and also use its registry fix till regisitry errors stop showing up

backup data. format, install win 7

You can download Game Booster 3 and run it before you play a game. It kills all nonessential processes in the background.

Yep. Vista is crappy as hell. If you can, upgrade to WIndows 7 and it'll speed up your laptop. Also, install a free trial of Tune-up Utilities. It's actually effective. I use it to deactivate unneeded programs that run in the background( even Chrome does) and defrag my disk. It also cleans the regristry and optimizes boot times and shutdowns. I used it on an old PC once. It had IDE drives, so it was friggin' slow. Once I used the program, boot-up times were like 10 seconds to desktop( Win XP). It was even faster than my laptop( that has an i3 and SATA drive. The PC had a Sempron 3000+)

Make sure you have enough HD space, if for example you have a 500 gb harddrive with only 60 gb remaining, you will start to notice significant slow down on access times for you data and programs execution times. I'd then suggest that you download Tune Up Utilities ( you can aquire it by other means than paying), and use all the tools it provides, 1 click tune up is a general speed up but if needed Id suggest defrag, Reg fix and also editing your startup programs.

What I see:

GL= Green Lantern

Another thing that might cause the problem, is that the CPU probably gets too hot and will throttle down to help cool the CPU down. One thing that might help is changing the Thermal Compound should assist in cooling. I would upgrade to windows 7 for sure as well. Windows 7 is much faster then windows crapsta. Adding more ram might help a little bit as well. Try to get the fastest memory that your laptop supports. Maybe get an SSD or just heavily defrag the hard drive. Might also be drivers as well. Make sure they are all up to date. You might also have a virus as well. That will slow any pc down to a crawl

@Reggie400, I do notice a huge slowdown when the hard drive is nearing capacity.

So do what everyone else said including what I said. Get back to us with the good and/or bad news

I'm getting to work on that. In the mean time, can someone toss me a link to a safe place to download Gamebooster3?

just don't fuck with your registry if your not completely sure what the register does...
