When I play games on steam my internet cuts out every now and then. When I play csgo it always buts out and its really annoying. but when I play and im on a skype call the game disconnects but skype doesnt
What provider do you have?
im in Australia and im using the provider called telstra its the best one in australia.
Check your router's QOS settings. Even though both streams are UDP skype's traffic will have priority over other traffic.
What are your normal speeds? Are you connecting via wifi? Are you on fibre or adsl2+ etc.
If you have a router/ap that you can tweak is crucial as those telsta units (im assuming its a Thompson) are shite.
Havent heard 'Telsta' and 'best' in the same sentence for about 10+yrs.....
ok well I have a bekin router and a telstra modem and iM using ADSL2+ and atm in using wifi. I usually use ethernet but Im trying wifi because I thought the problem might be that the ethernet port on my motherboard might be faulty. but that doesnt seem to be the problem.
wifi = overhead + signal issues (line of sight etc) so always use ethernet if you can. Wifi as a last resort.
Are you able to access the router? ~ eg 192.168.1.1 ?? Then get into the settings?
I am able to access the router
maybe I have to buy a new router and modem??
Run this speed test.
http://www.speedtest.net/
How many devices are accessing the connection at any given time? Like the times your issue is occuring? If like me your speeds are in the range of <7Mbps down & <1Mbps up, then you cant expect it it handle high quality streaming + other connections.
Do other devices have the same issue? If not then you can safely say that your pc is the problem.
So >> you have tried both wifi & ethernet - same occurs. So then one can assume that its a software issue. - A quick test in a linux environment will determine this beyond doubt. If is all good in linux double check all your drivers (as I asume you would have done this prior to creating this thread).
In the router settings look for settings like QOS etc. Without a model number my hands are kinda tied.
well I get 5MBPS down and 0.7 up, im thinking of maybe reseting windows? do you think that would do the trick?
- Check drivers.
- Test in linux - download distro of choice (any one will do), image
the iso to a usb, boot off usb. (...or dvd choice is yours) - Re-installing windows wont do squat if other devices are experiencing
the same issue.
Run these just in case
cmd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
I have another computer and it doesnt disconnect when I play games on it
so do you think I should reset windows?
If you think Telstra is good then you don't deserve internet.
lol
I was just about to reset windows but my disk drive isnt showing up
do I maybe need to download some drivers for it?
From what I've read if possible connect your Box straight into the modem (yes you will be the only one able to access the internet at the time, so warn people first).
This is just to eliminate the possibility of the router throwing issues your way.
PS. Please move this thread to a different sub-forum. This is not a "Build A PC" topic. It would be better off in the "Windows" or possibly one of the two Networking ones categories.

could be damaged cables, better call to have a tech come and inspect the signal in the line.
