Hey
I managed to figure out how to run the Java KVM of my IBM IMM (Integrated Manangement module) in 2024.
I have used this method for my IBM X3550 M3 with the optional IMM addon key module and the IBM X3850 X5. I am not 100% percent sure which other version use this same IMM.
Here are the prequisites.
- Check that your server has access to the WEB-IMM GUI.
- Check that you have access to MS internet-explorer (I have not gotten mine to work with any other browser. The Edge IE-compability mode works also.
- Check that your server/servers have reserved LAN ip-addresses. For compalabity I would advice having at least IPv4 addresses for the IMM interfaces.
- Reserve the server IMM LAN IPv4 and IPv6 addresses from your DHCP-server/Router. This is not 100% required but for security configuration for Java-exception list I strongly advice for you to do that.
- Check if you have Java Control Panel installed on your system. If not, you might need to download it. I downloaded it from here:
https://www.java.com/en/ - Open Java Control panel (program name is Configure Java.
- Open the security submenu
- Edit the site excecuton list. Add your servers IPv4/IPv6 addresses to the exemption list.
- save and apply your changes.
Now you should be able to access the Java KVM on through the IMM webGUI on the IP address of that IMM. Note that I have not managed to get the IE-KVM version from the WebGUI with my personal machines after summer 2024 in edge IE-compabality mode.
Some additional notes
- Don’t open the IMM webGUI into the internet. I am pretty sure it has some really old technical implementations which might place your entire network at risk!
