My friends PC

Hey my friend wants to build a PC so I suggested some parts to him. His aim was for an EXTREMELY quiet and CHEAP build.

I suggested this cart to him: http://www.pccasegear.com/sc/T8

The only regrets I have is the motherboard because I have had 2 ASRock boards fail on me after 2 years (both of them) but it is so much cheaper and I don't think he intends to add any more money. He wants the build to be functional as soon as possible over super grade performance. The reason there is no video card is because I'm lending him my old GTX 550 Ti.

What do you think of his cart? Anything that needs to be improved or any way to drop the price?

The thing that concerns me is the PSU. there's is a good review and breakdown of a 650w PSU from cougar. It is actually only a 600w PSU and when they tried to draw over 600w a diode even exploded, they sent for another PSU but it exploded again.

The concern is then that the 550w is a 500w or worse. I'm always against getting cheap per wattage PSUs, due to the fact that a cheap PSU can provide unclean power to your components and damage the entire PC over time. silent good quality PSU comes at a price.

I also noticed there's no RAM, u might wanna add a 4 GB stick.

Agreed, the psu is a POS. This is better and cheaper >>> http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_535&products_id=15319 & will do the job.

Worried about the asrock board then grab the cheapo Gigabyte >>> http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_803&products_id=24181

++ WD Blue instead of Seagate http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_344&products_id=21231, much better hdd.

Is this perfect?

If you're going for a good, cheap build, you can downgrade that CPU, the ram, the case, and even the cooler.

But that depends on what his definition of cheap is. What kind of funds are you working with here?

That being said, that build looks good for 600 dollars.

$600 or less. He wants silence over all.

new build looks good. your mate only has to upgrade the gpu at a later date for nicer gaming.

If he wants to play planetside 2 he might actually wanna keep the 8 GB of ram and the cpu. I think you're looking at a much stronger build now. The loudest part of the pc is gonna be the graphics card along with the PSU. Maybe some time in the future he can find himself a good deal on a 7970 or 660ti/760 card and get a much better machine.
