My friend has 16gb of RAM, and his rig is only running at max 7ish to 8gb. We were playing Ark and a few days after his computer started having issues running it. Now it will not run at all. His computer can run most things on the highest settings. Could there be an issue with the Megahertz that the ram is getting? I've read on other places where that could be an issue. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about technology so if anyone has some solutions or hunches on the issue it'd be much appreciated.
If you right click "computer" then click "properties" what does your installed ram say? What does your usable say? MHz would only really affect anything if it was still DDR ram, even DDR2 can cope with most games still.
RAM speed doesn't matter, run memtest, but first check how much RAM the system sees under windows
The amount of installed RAM is also displayed on screen during boot (if you disable fast boot / fancy boot or whatever the splash screen is called in BIOS/UEFI)
That will display the total installed but not the total working, windows will detect both
Well ..... yes. But it is always beneficial to have multiple sources of information. Software may be lying.
Thanks for all of the replies! I believe he said he was operating at 7.8 or something like that out of his 16 he had available and Ark is now completely unusable for him. He is using Windows 7 home premium with corsair RAM. Could there just be something like malware in his system or the game malfunction? It works perfect on my system.
Oh and also his CPU usage was all over the place while reinstalling the game. It kept hitting 100% and jumping all around
i really doubt it's RAM related. RAM is used as needed. You don't spontaneously use more just because you have more.
I am guessing that he is using Win 7 Home Basic as it is limited to 8 GB max.
You could also check if your max memory at startup is set to 8GB max in MS config.
If thats the case just uncheck that max memory box and reboot the system.
Then you should basicly have the full 16GB availeble.
- go to start run, type "msconfig" (without quotes) and hit enter.
- Then go to the bootup tab > advanced options.
- Uncheck max memory check box.
- reboot.
Yeah I kinda figured something was up with his BIOS and not the actual RAM. I'll give your suggestions to him and see how it plays out. I'll get back on here when I get an update
As soon as I try to get in the game my computer tops out at 100% just clicking on steam makes it go all over the place
does this show anything?Did you allready checked my post above?
Max memory setting in ms config.
system specs?
i only see one core which is kinda odd.
You need to uncheck both max cores at startup and max memory at startup in ms config.
Hold on @MisteryAngel I'll send you his info so you can talk directly to him. He's not with Tek Syndicate
