My First PC build (and a very original title)

I'm looking into building a gaming PC capable of playing and recording video of fairly graphic intense games.

(I'm trying to keep it around $1000 as it stands right now pcpartpicker.com is quoting me $970)

So here is my current parts list as it stands.

-Intel i5-3570 3.4GHz

-Intel BXXTS100H CPU Cooler

-Asus p8B75-V ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

-Corsair 16gb (2x8GB) DDR3-13333 Memory

-Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal HDD

-EVGA GeForce GTX 650 Ti 2gb Video Card

-Asus Xonar DS 24-bit 192 KHz Sound Card

-Rosewill RNG-406U 10/100/1000 Mbps USB 3.0 Network Adapter

-Encore ENUWI-1XN4M 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Wi-Fi Adapter

-Cooler Master HAF XB (Black) ATX Desktop Case

-Cooler Master R4-L4S-10AB-GP 60.9 CFM 140mm Fan (x2)

-Cooler Master R4-L2R-20AC-GP 69.0 CFM 120mm Fan

-Logisys 480w ATX12v Power Supply

-LG UH12NS29 Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer

-Arctic Silver 5 High-Density PolySynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste

your mobo can't support that ram,... in all seriousness though you want to bump it up to 1600 or 1866 for gaming.

I don't think a 650ti will cut it then.

try making a build on the 8350 AMD platform, it's cheaper, about same performance (look @ linus's vids) and thus you'll be able to fit a better GPU, maybe a 7870XT, 7950, or 660ti/670

Personally, I'd ditch the fans, network adaptors, and sound card (unless you're an audiophile), cut back the RAM to 8GB, and get a more reliable, efficient power supply. Also, that cooler is not worth the asking price. Maybe $15.

Suggestions for replacements:

RAM: Any 2x 4GB DDR3-1600 kit @ 1.5v

Power supply: 530W Rosewill Green Series

Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus

If you have some room in your budget, I'd opt for a 660, 7850, or a 7870.

This is a different build based around your recommendations (to the best of my understanding...) As it stands I'm risking getting murdered by family members who worked at intel =P

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/OF1S (Hoping that works)

I already rebuilt around previous recommendations so the power supply just changed...

Thank you for the recommendations on getting rid of the sound card and Network adapter... I'd like to keep wireless but for some reason I thought the network and sound cards were required...

What would you recommend for the new cooler since I switched to AMD? (see previous comment for updated build)

Both sound and network "cards" are integrated on the motherboards these days, even the budget oriented ones.

Skimping on the power supply is NEVER a good idea. CoolMax isn't much better. The thing with generic power supplies, such as CoolMax or Logisys is that best case scenario, they do what they're suppose to, but that is rarely the case. Worst case, it blows your entire build (not to say it's common, but not unheard of either). I'd recommend going Rosewill Green at the lowest possible tier, but most anything from Seasonic, XFX, NZXT, Fractal, Corsair, (I'm wary of their Builder series however), or Antec should be good.

Also, internal wireless cards (PCI/PCI-e 1x) are better than USB ones.

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 is still a valid option with AMD chips as well. I'd only get if you plan of overclocking. If not, use stock cooling.
